I first saw the name Neysa like 10 years ago, in a Pier's Anthony novel.

Coincidentally, she was a black unicorn :p

It is the whole Apprentice Adapt series by him. The first three novels deal with Stile and Neysa's adventures in Phaze and Proton, the second 3 novels deal with their children, while the 7th somewhat ties up loose ends. One of my favorite series by him as well but all the emphasis on his Xanth novels he seems to have written himself into a corner. When the fans asked about another revisit to Phaze/Proton rather than write a new series he put the locale in 2 recent Xanth novels and then only mentioned in about 2 chapters and using none of the original characters, just the locations.

I got this from thinkbabynames.com (oddly enough, BehindTheName didn't have it :\). It's odd that the character is apparently male since this is a female name, but hey; you can call yourself anything you want, right?

Really, it's just a name when you get right down to it. Someone wants to call themselves Neysa, they pretty much can.

My Neysa came from the Piers Anthony novel, Split Infinity, which I read long ago.
Over time she's evolved into something completely different from Piers Anthony's vision.

At AC I met one of our great artists, XianJaguar. My con badge said 'Neysa' on it.
She asked if I was you, she got kind of excited at the idea that she was meeting you, but I had to explain that I was a different one that she never heard of before.

And no, I wouldn't be worried about the brown male dragon, just a name after all.

Hello first Neysa. Yes, it appears that Piers Anthony has touched so many of us with his characters, especially Neysa. For the clarification of others, Neysa originally appeared in a trilogy consisting of Split Infinity, Blue Adept and Juxtaposition, in which she is a pony sized black unicorn mare who is an outcast from the unicorn herd because of her 'mundane' coloring. I too evolved from the generally quiet and reserved Neysa, to someone who apparently has an issue keeping my mouth shut. And I am so excited to hear about XianJaguar! She is amazing. I'm surprised and honored that she remembers me!

I think what it really is for me,  jaiyikendra is that you and I personify Neysa, with minor bipedal modifications, as a black equine mare and to some extent keep to our origins of the storybook character. Thank you so much for replying, I was really hoping for your input.

Seems a few people in the comments have been touched as it were by Piers Anthony and his books. I know I have given i have read all his major series baring one or two: Xanth, Apprentice Adapt, Incarnations of Immortality, and Mode. I even admit to having myself a black mare character in form of Ceyla who while not based off Neysa was based off another Anthony's characters: Mare Imbrium from the Xanth book Night Mare.

Heh, I've sorta had the same mistaken identity with some as yet unmet and unknown Radar that's a bat. Never met them at all. And here on fa, the only other Radar is a bear, but to be honest, I don't see how the name Radar can fit for a bear.
