AC report, art status and fursuit advice?
General
I'm late, as usual. I needed a day or two to gather my thoughts about AC to make a full report.
So, this was my very first AC and 2nd furry con that I've attended. I have to say that I had a complete blast being there and meeting tons of people and art peoples I've admired since I first stepped into the land of the internet. I got somewhat trapped at the Artist Alley for the first few days and didn't really get to have fun until like..Sunday, which made me a little sad because I had no idea socializing could be so much fun at a furry con and I WANTED TO DO MORE OF IT. It makes me sad, but at least I know how to manage my time better next year and for future larger cons. Overall, I really enjoyed myself and hope to attend AC next year! Now to mention some awesome people I met or spoke with or whatever I FEEL LIKE I HAVE TO DO THIS.

and of course, I love my road bros here
dislocatedpenguin,
minimumtalent and
djsammehfox! We drove all the way from Sarasota to Pittsburgh. :D
Now, as for my current art status, I will be getting back on schedule with everyone's commissions after my week's hiatus. I need to take a breather and need a few days to gather myself together art-wise and re-fuel my inspiration gauge because I can feel it running a tad low. I hope this okay with everyone who's waiting on something from me! I kind of hate working when I feel slightly stressed. Don't worry though, I will get back to work once I'm on my feet again, I promise! (8 You should see commissions flowing through again as usual. I already updated my complete to-do list journal with my orders from AC and anything else that I owe anyone. Once I'm feeling recharged, I'll be ready to start plowing through my list again. If you have any questions, once again, please note me with any concern you may have. But as a heads up, I will be submitting 1 or 2 pieces of personal art before I get back to work.

If you ordered something from me at AC, and don't see your name under the AC list, please let me know ASAP! Just to let you all know, I will be starting on my older list first and doing ac orders inbetween my older commissions, however I assure you that all badges will be completed before Megaplex at the end of July. :3 I would like to have a clean con queue before I do any more artist alley work.
Now that that's out of the way, I have a question for all of you fursuit makers out there. So eh.
Yeah, me and Mur are thinking about learning how to make fursuits yeah? Going to AC only made this decision a definite FUCK YEAH LET'S GET STARTED. It's kind of funny to think about though, I used to be terrified of fursuits and now here I am wanting to make my own. I'm still creeped out by the really..horrible fursuits though kjhgsd I won't even get started on those.
So yeah, I kind of wanted to begin compiling a list of supplies to get started with and to budget out how much it's going to cost. I know it'll be a lot, which is why I'm being as cautious as possible and trying to gather up as much info as possible before I get started. I've already been plowing through the lj community for fursuits for some info, but that place is so cluttered I feel as though I can't find much at all. So I was wondering if any of you wouldn't mind lending me and Mur some advice on how to get started, what are the best places to buy materials from and maybe point us in the direction of some nice tutorials?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! <3

How did you DRIVE all the way there o.e
I couldn't even stand the drive from Sarasota to Tenessee.
You got roadskills of steel.
Good god do they get really, REALLY scary out there ;;
-sob-
THE HORROR
Also the ones with tiny creeper faces
they make me cry at night
I did 13 hours from Ocala to whenever i said "ENOUGH!"
You don't have one!

just seriously passed through your place this weekend 3 times.
I wanted to randomly stop by all like oh hay
or something.
IDK BUT OKAY. I look forward to it.
YEAH. I'll be seeing you tomorrow then.
week*
I KEEP THINKING IT'S THE WEEKEND.
As for fursuit stuff (and the bad suits creep me out too sometimes XD)...

And youtube has some decent videos that have helped me out.

I dunno. Hope any of those links help. ^^;
Thank you for the links, I really appreciate it <33
I'mma looking forward to see your fursuit. <3
Thanks, I can't wait to get started! I don't know who to do first.. >_>; Probably a new character of mine.
:P It was awesome meeting youuuu. You need to come to MFF.
As far as materials for fursuits, for fur the most common places are distinctivefabrics.com, mendels, and CR's crafts. Dont order any short fur unless it is of the 'seal' variety...others usually suck. Also, look up the balaclava method, its easier to work with and more comfortable to wear :) If you have any questions about anything I can usually answer.
Well, thank you for the tips! We'll definitely hit you up with questions if we run into any snags :D
idk ive been looking around for people I could commission, but i cant find anyone who looks as though they could do my character well.
but im afraid if i try to learn how to do fursuits, i prob wont do it right either.
One thing you NEED to keep in mind though, is how limited fur colors are. Like.. there's really only very basic things if you want to keep the style consistant http://www.syfabrics.com/Browse.asp.....Shaggy-Fur/186 AND http://www.fabric.com/apparel-fashi.....ag-fabric.aspx
be warned, the pics LIE. you need to get swatches, the colors are generally SO DIFFERENT from the previews. Also, not sure if the gray fur shortage is over, but for a while it was nearly impossible to get ahold of gray fur, unless you got it from another fur who already had some.
If you do make a fursuit, you should totally show me pictures, I'd be really interested in seeing. c:
OH ALSO REALLY RANDOM but me and my friend were talking today
what happened to HBO and FTO? they went down ages ago and its so saddening because those places were so much fun to go to when you're bored haha
However, I made a list of possible characters and that includes Chester, Clover, my old skunk/bunny character Fiona and others are suggesting Trixy and Zeth, but I personally think they would be impossible xD; That or they would take months to complete. While they have simple designs, they are complicated body shape wise and I would have no one to fit Zeth perfectly. Ah, and we have an idea for some marsupial characters who's designs we're working out right now. They're gonna be called Koalabies! Or Koalaroos..whichever we see fits best. I like Koalaby though. IT SOUNDS CUTE.
I will definitely take pictures C8
Uhhh HBO went down ages ago with oekakiart.com, a tragic loss it was. I shut down FTO because of personal reasons. I felt like it wasn't really needed anymore.
As awesome as it would be to see Trixy, Zeth, or Clover running around, I totally see what you mean.. BUT KOALABIES omg that sounds adorable. I want a marsupial suit too, having a pouch would just be so convenient.
And if you don't mind my prying even further, what species is it going to be? Seeing a fursuit, or really any sort of sculpture from you would just be really neat, you have such nice facial shapes.
His head would be fun to make though...
Uhhh, the new guy is a pink husky. 0: I'll leave it at that, I'll reveal him when the time comes.
KOALABIESS I love saying that, it just radiates cute. Also yes, pouches would be extremely convenient.
For tutorials, I recommend BeetleCat, as mentioned above. The tutorials are very informative and inspiring. Also, BeastCubCreations does some awesome tutorials as well.
For fur: www.distinctivefabric.com, www.crscraft.com, and https://www.mendels.com/fur2.shtml
For foam, if you have a Joann's Fabric store nearby, they have the cheapest. Micheal's and a local craft store may carry foam as well. Everything else is available at Walmart!! It depends on your style also- some people make headpieces out of foam, some make it out of wires and frames, and even more make them out of other things.
I hope this helped!!
I dun really know much about building fursuits
but can't wait to see your first results x3
but
yeah
you've gotten me really excited for next year~ and I hope to talk to you on msn soon xD!
I'm glad you guys had fun.
If you want to break it down a little, probley $20 for fur (i'd advise posting on fursuit auctions if you don't need alot of one color), $20 for foam, and $10 for other little things.
I advise getting fur from Fabric.com, or another site like it. joanns and most local craft stores sell bad crap fur, if at all.

and
http://community.livejournal.com/fursuit/
are your most valuble assests young paw-towan. (you see what I did there haha! xD)
now, use the Furce! :P
I think you'll do good. posting WIP's on fursuit livejournal and asking for readlines is a good idea, sometimes a new eye catches things you can't.
If you want to know anything more specific, feel free to ask! I'm not a super good maker or anything, but i still might be able to help! :D

And it end up costing a little more than that in reality.
I remember your suit very well, it's one of my favorites because it came out so well and it's like your style in 3-D?? Also wasn't that your first head? If so that's amazing for your first one or so.
