Dear watchers: Why are you furry?
I was asked this today..."I hope I'm not being rude but Can I ask you if humans want to explore animal life, well is they're Furries that only join cause they're sick of being human?"
He considers himself an animal. This makes him happy to consider himself an actual creature...
I explained to him that I am not in furry to "be an animal"- I am in furry because I enjoy dressing up as one...well, I'll dress up as almost anything actually. I wore a costume that was a blackberry for an electronics convention. :P
I am a performer. I was brought and attracted into the fandom originally because a lot of my former performers in the pro world were also involved with the fandom. I wanted to figure out what motivated them and why furry was such a draw for them. When I got into the fandom in 2007, I realized why, you can perform and you can really have fun creating and being your own characters.
From there, I met the people. Some of my closest friends and people I live with are furry. I would not trade these people for the world. They keep me in the fandom.
I have trouble relating to those who really think they are a dog in a person's body...I can understand the release behind pretending to be someone/something else...but actually thinking you are a dog, finding comfort in that, and going into a subculture that accepts that- is something I just have issues wrapping me "all to human" mind around. Whatever floats their boat, is great...but it just isn't my cup of tea. If you are into that- awesome....I will just never be able to understand it because that isn't where my mind is when it comes to thinking about why I am furry.
So I gotta ask all of my watchers...what brought you into the fandom and why are you here?

I like being an anonymous animal, it's a rare outlet for the little amount of creativity I actually have. It makes me happy and it seems to make others happy.
Also, fluffy things are really, really cute. And Kangaroos <3.
Oh and of course, im furry for the lulz :D
Next Question.
Now run for president you smelly primate
yeah only reason i am still here, is for the cheezburgrs!
Much like pro ball players who remember the playground they used to play, that's how fandom is to me. And I still love playing in this playground.
I've met many wonderful people in my travels. Not saying that by being furry you will be my friend, but it's an inroad, a commonality that may lead to friendship. Currently almost my entire friendship base is through furry.
Sometimes I wonder if I'll quit fandom, but I can't quit the furry aspect inside me.
maybe i'm due for some introspection
