ARBLEGARBLERAARRRLL. (Refresh where appropriate)
HELLO! Remember this time last week when everyone was writing their AC reports? Well GUESS WHAT.
I'm NOT GOING TO LIE, personally AC was a bit of a disaster. Not that this should reflect on any of my roommates all of whom were absolutely wonderful and, dare I say (at the risk of offending all the others), some of the best roommates at AC I've ever had.
colnathanrjessup and
voln were hilarious (I'm still yet to have one of those explosive farts though),
ekes was a drunk with a scarf and
scurrow, oh god, Scurrow. <3 If only you could have been around for longer, although I did enjoy having an entire bed to myself. All these guys are the perfect roommates, especially Chris who was particularly understanding when he was accidentally charged for half the room.
As usual I met up with far too many people to list, but if I met you, you were amazing and I love you because it wasn't any of the people who were the problem.
THE PROBLEM, was doing a full day at work, packing, leaving myself 2 hours to sleep before being awake for a full 24 hours. For the whole journey I felt like I was coming down with a cold so I was using a nasal spray which at one point actually set fire to my brain for a good two hours, I had to run through three terminals at Boston airport to make a connection with seconds to spare and when I got to Pittsburgh it turned out my bag hadn't come with me because the TSA had decided to open it up again, and given how little time I had to make that connection there was no way it could've got to the plane in time if they were busy searching through all my cider.
US Airways were very efficient in getting my bag back to me by Thursday morning but I never really recovered from that whole day, the cold never fully developed but I had a sore throat for the entire con and lost my voice on a few occasions which meant no singing, which is particularly painful when you have a U2 party planned and a keytar that plays WHAM's 'Last Christmas'. I never quite got enough sleep and found myself having to head off to bed hours earlier than I normally would every night, and the lack of certain regulars, mainly from the vore crowd, took its toll as well, although I'm reliably informed they'll be back next year with bigger plans than ever.
The other issue is that this time last year I'd never been to a European furry convention, and somehow since then I've managed to attend three, and returning to AC makes the number of anime types and cosplayers that have nothing to do with furry painfully apparent, along with the types who just recite internet jokes like they're soo crazy! I have no reason to believe this problem was any bigger than previous years, it's just attending the European cons that's made it more noticable to me.
I don't want this to turn all bitchy though, fact is I was feeling unwell for most of the con which played on my mood, although reading everyone else's journals I managed to cover it pretty well, and of course the con had its highlights, the banner petition, amazing roommates, the clock radio that played nothing but Prince, Kage's story hour is always wonderful and the aforementioned keytar, WAIT. VIDEO?
Will I be back? Of course, there's no keeping me away from Anthrocon, Pittsburgh is my happy place, the first AC I attended was in 2006 so I've never known it to be anywhere else. Next year? I dunno, this year's left me feeling I need to do something wildly different, maybe it'll involve a smaller US con, like FA:U, maybe it'll just involve tackling AC from a different angle, but I've got a year or so to figure all that out.
After AC however was a different story, the healing power of the KFC double down before crossing the border into Canada cured me of my sore throat so I could enjoy Denny's with
rockk and Kidd and
stabox and the like. At the end of AC I was ready to just go home, by the time we were done in Canada that was the last thing I wanted, so hey, it all turned out alright in the end.
Oh and by the way, might I suggest you only use this version of FA from now on. No reason, y'know, just sayin'.
