thats the problem with the director. his movies go one of two ways, through the roof, or down the toilette... and even here he just HAD to end it with a twist... *sigh* or at-least a pathetic attempt at one... The movie did not have a single redeaming factor, they knew they couldnt do it justice with the time they had so they didnt even try....

Not even the fight scenes were interesting, the cgi is atrocious and tacked on, and seems to involve "haha! i shall do martial arts for no apparent reason, and that will cause the elements to bend to my whim even though its not at all sinking up to whats supposedly happening!.............Its like they did the cgi first and tried to get the actors to go along with it.

And why are the fire nation Indians?

LOLOL! Personally i like the spicy stuff... the only place locally that sells indian food makes it all watery and oily if you dont get it full spice, if you want the full flavor and texture, you have to have the fire too

Once again, a live action/cgi movie based on the animated series turns out bad. When will they learn?
And I never even seen the animated series until recently when the movie came out.

I just hated that everybody was so mopey. I wanted Aang to laugh so bad, that it made me want to cry.

I watched the series about 3 years ago and it was great

Favorite line from the movie: "You're the AHHHVATAHR AHHNNG!"

They didn't say Avatar or Aang correctly once the entire film. Such a bummer.

They got just about every pronunciation wrong in the entire movie. I think the only names said right were Zuko and Appa. ;_;

If you never watched the cartoon, the movie was probably OK. Unfortunately, the target audience for the movie was the people who have watched the cartoon.

I STILL haven't seen the end of the series.

It got scathing reviews in the papers. I doubt I would have cared for it anyway -- it took only a glance at the poster to see that this film was a Hong Kong punch-'em up that somebody foolishly spend $50,000,000 on. No amount of money spend on a martial arts boys film would have made it any different, I don't think. You either like that sort of thing, or you don't. The catch is that even if you *do* like that sort of thing, making it badly will still disappont the audience.

Tru that brotha! I saw previews and dismissed it as garbage. I love the cartoon as well and I did not want to ruin that view.

I really like the cartoon, too and I knew that the movie would never be as awesome as the cartoon so I never even thought about watching it

Damn...at first I thought it was going to be a good movie *is also a huge fan of the animated series* but after all those bad reviews I will certainly not waste my money on it. >=P I suppose it as bad as, or even worse than Dragon Ball Evolution.

Alright, look... I LOVE the TV Show. I only got to see parts of the movie (ended up having to leave midway because my friend had an allergic reaction when somehow peanut oil got into the popcorn... but that's a WHOLE different story). Now, I had to leave right around where Aang was captured and rescued by Zuko. However, I liked what I saw up until that point. I was able to fill in the blanks since I have seen the show and it did not bother me in the least. I saw it more as a "Highlights Reel" to give you the gist of the story. Also, they made Zuko pretty bad ass if you ask me. And Iro, I heard, was made an INSANELY bad ass character than he already was in the show, which I would have loved to see.

Look, I understand how it was "too fast" for a lot of people. But think about it; how many episodes did they have to cut down and summarize to fit in ONE movie?! Are you REALLY going to bitch piss and moan over things like that? Especially when the CREATOR OF THE CARTOON HIMSELF said he LOVED the movie!

Sure, they COULD make a movie out of every three or four episodes individually, but do you get how much money that would cost? A whole fuck-ton! I thought the special effects were pretty awesome, and I liked how they showed the bending abilities working. I thought the choreography was actually rather impressive. Sure, there were parts I did not like, but enough with the elitst attitude of "Oh I loved the show so I hate the movie! Rawr rawr rawr!" Alright? Seriously, it's annoying.

I am sorry for ranting, but I am sick of people ranting and raving about how it sucked and being biased just because of a few minor details. Also, note this: This comment was not to the journal post, it was more directed at the comments. I am very sorry JoeRandel that I used your journal to do this and I hope you can forgive me.

I house no anger or contempt towards anyone, I just ask that you stop complaining about how it sucked without actually saying what was wrong with it. Criticism that is not constructive is just simply annoying and childish. If you hate it, tell people WHY you hate it. Anyways, that ends my rant.

Sigh. I knew M Night Shyamalan wasn't up to this.
Some of his movies are really good, but he's hit or miss. Signs for example was a really weak film. I love Avatar the Last Airbender too, but the show was built on a foundation of character development, something you can never quite pull off in a movie anyway.
