Burgled, nothing taken

Came home late last night to find lights on and a hole in the back door window pane. Looks like they went through the main section of the house, going through draws and cupboards looking for valuables. The front door was wide open.
Fortunately I don't live in the main section of the house - that part's somewhat derelict. There's a CRT TV and an old video system in there, but it looks like they didn't bother with those. I'm not sure if they even took anything.
Reported to police, yet to see them do anything. I still feel violated, and unsafe. As you can imagine, I didn't sleep well last night.
With my thesis and deadlines for various things at work approaching rapidly... I could have done without this. :'(

I hope they're caught.
I'm not sure if that means anything, but it just has the look of "this neighbourhood isn't sure if it's old or new, run-down or modern..."
Of course, the first thing I did (besides reporting to police) was to google advice and stats about this. I remember reading something like a 25% increase in the chance of being burgled in the next 12 months, having been burgled once. Dammit, science, why'd you have to tell me that?
So yeah, hopefully.
(I am increasingly looking forward to getting the hell out of this house. This just adds to the list of reasons...)
I'm too much of a pussy to even think about doing anything violent myself, though...
That sort of thing doesn't happen around here. Almost every household is armed, and it is perfectly legal to kill burglars - and they know it.
Though I am tempted by the idea of boarding up the glass panels in the other doors. Since we'll have to board up the broken window, anyway...
