Happy Day-After Independence Day!

I just want to say, I am a fairly liberal individual, not to mention gay, non-Christian and generally feel safer voting Democrat in elections. This does NOT make me unpatriotic.
I love America and prefer to live here rather than in MOST other countries in the world. I know that Conservative Republicans like to portray people like myself as hating America and subversive, but I submit that the "love it or leave it" mentality is a MUCH more subversive attitude. I like it here so much, that rather than abandon it to the factions that want to turn this country into another religious theocracy--like the world needs another one of THOSE--I prefer to fight to keep it a place of freedom of thought and ideas and a bastion of personal liberty!
Just because I think Bush is the most dangerous and worst President ever--that doesn't make me a bad citizen...I think it makes me a good American!

It's a shame that the US has so much hate crime, wether it be based on religion, race, preference, gender or politics. It is a shame that common sense and decency is not common.
The country needs a wake up call, for all races and both genders. And not the sort of wake up call that religous nuts claim it needs, the sort it needs is that wich will benefit everybody.

But, anyways, Happy (late) Fireworks Day too you as well! :D (Cause that's all it means to me; fireworks and noises XD)
How can I NOT critisize???
Our legislators are riddled with private interest lobbyists and back-room dealings to the point where no American feels they can actually trust any elected official. Period. And if we can't trust them, they can't govern us because we constantly question and undermine them, but if we don't their corruptions have no checks and balances.
in your country case... again as an outsider maybe a reform on the system could be in order... germain type... on one hand you would keep the one person constituencies... but allowing listthat would be ellected by proportional (hondt) method would allow the entrance of the small parties...
there is no bigger enemy for a democracy that parasites and the indiference of the people... that will allow the rise to power of the dictator oportunists...
Absolutely!
And as often as it scares me....whenever I jokingly tell one of my co-workers "Stop thinking! Be a *good* American!"....far too often, they seem more than willing to follow instructions.
For the record, it's not that republicans hate homosexuals, it about the 'religious' bible belt's votes. Think about that!
Religious leaders and politicians do not care about YOU. They care about the status quo. Lining their pockets with YOUR money.
Why do you think education funding is being cut? They don't want you to think. They want an ingnorant population, wound up with stress, hooked on their perscription drugs and useing mindless TV bullshit and sports to distract you from what's really going on.
"Free Thinkers" are dangerous to them. That's why we need to get out there and VOTE. And not for the same 2 lame parties. Look into to Bull Moose and Green parties. Take a look at independant candidates. The more you start voting for anyone other than democrats and republicans, the more light is shed on alternative candidates.
It might take awhile, but eventually, the the dicks in washington will take notice and maybe we'll change American politics for the better.

1984 by George Orwell.
I started reading it the day before. Just finished it tonight. It's frightening...
Seriously--America is a great place, but it isn't perfect by any stretch. We've got huge problems and all the divisive and selfish hypocrisies of our governing officials are only making things worse. I'm worried that the system will eventually completely collapse into total inertia.
All the candidates of both the republicrats and the demopublicans (excepting Ron Paul and Tom Tancredo) voted for McCain-Feingold and every other First Amendment trashing bill to use the guns of government to shut up their critics, especially just before elections. The purpose of these bills was NOT to take money out of politics; election campaigns spend more than ever. The purpose was to shut up the grass roots and give more control to the party machinery and the fat cats running it - which these laws have done.
We now have a professional criminal class running governments around the world. Here is a magnificant furry photomorph depiction of what is going on:

Hillary Clinton is a career criminal. The odds against her cattle futures trades being legit are literally a billion to one.
With regards to Bush II, it is hard to miss the mess that he has made of both our security and Iraq. What far fewer people know is that his Medicare Part D has created a future unfunded deficit with a present value of about 50 trillion (not billion) dollars. The present value of the Social Security unfunded deficit is about 7 trillion in comparison. The total value of all private property (including corporate) in the US is about 40 trillion. You and I and everybody working for a living that isn't politically favored are going to be forced to pay that off at the point of a tax collectors gun. With the stroke if his pen, Bush II stole more than the entire value of all private property in the US. But it got him elected (barely) for one more term, so it was a good deal - for Bush II.
Hillary may not be much better morally--but at least she would likely not try to steamroll over my personal liberties simply because I'm not a rich, white Christian. That's mostly all I want from a President anymore... :P
