Still not fixed

So, I didn't get my car back today. They put in a new fuel pump and now have confirmed that the fuel is getting to the engine, but the spark plugs are still misfiring preventing it from starting.
I told them that I was upest about the possibility of having to spend more money, considering that I am laid off and on unemployment at the moment. They let me know that they will do what they can to keep the price at $400 for me.
Honestly, I wish they didn't change the fuel pump. I am sure it was fine since I just got it replaced 2 years ago. I never had a fuel pump failure on any prior car so I kind of have a feeling that they should last more than 2 years. Since it stil does not run, it seems likely to me that replacing the fuel pump was not a necessary expense. I hope they saved my old one and once it works, maybe they can put my old one back if it's not really broke.
I wish I knew more about cars. I do know that the engine won't turn over and start without the 'starting fluid' and after they tried the charge plate thing which they thought would fix the problem after the diagnostics, they then thought it was a fuel pump but that's still not making it run.
If anyone happens to know of any car problems that this description sounds like, let me know. I am just frustrated with it. If I didn't still have to make more payments on it, I would be looking to replace it. But, with no job, I would not even qualify for a loan at this time.
I know, does anyone have a car they don't want? I accept gifts ....(just joking on that of course.) I have my mom's car until this one is working.
