I think with some artist it's just...Mind boggling I guess? Like I browse and I go "oh hey this person posted something" but it's not them but it's someone else?

I think the ones that get me are the ones who get noted that their art looks like someone else and fans/friends jump on that person saying their art looks NOTHING like the other persons when it's clear that it *does* right down to the anatomy, coloring style, background and the like. That's something that troubles me.

And when you start seeing fifty million copies of a style it's just not...Fun anymore to look at? I don't really know.

I know what you're talking about, it's infuriating. What I rrrreally hate are pictures where you can tell exactly which original piece the new artist had in mind while drawing.

one or two artists immediately come to mind ... it irks me too to be honest, probably more than it should :/ i just have some sort of feeling that an injustice has been done that nobody notices but me and when they get praise for their originality it kinda makes me really disappointed

like you said, if it's a heavily overused and famous type of style i really don't care (maybe because the influence is OBVIOUS and the borrower isn't receiving credit for the 'unique' style like some lesser known people), but when it's on a smaller scale it almost feels like MAYBE they think they can get away with something if nobody recognizes the style ... EHHHH .. this is one of those taboo subjects that i usually don't speak up about but it really does annoy me quite a bit

Yeah, two of my favorites from back in the day immediately come to mind. I really shouldn't care so much, but I do. I know what you mean by the injustice. And then I sit and think about it and feel silly for being an art crusader, but then I get irked that even I'd think that.

Oooh I know what it's like to want details, and I want to rattle off a list, but the main two I have in mind absolutely hate each other now and despise it when people reference the two of them. Also, I really don't want to rain down a bunch of unnecessary drama on anyone, and I don't have anything against the clones as people. Some of them seem pretty rad, and I actually feel like a bit of an asshole for even mentioning it.

I do believe I understand what you are talking about, and it makes me sad that there are a few artists that all ready come to mine that I used to really enjoy their work, but now look all most EXACTLY alike...

FA it's very prevalent to me - DA on the other hand, not so much - since the ones that come off the top of my head right away are mostly just influenced by certain shows/styles that are based with actually professionals.

I'm all for artistic expression and if you want to use someone else's style to try and create your own, but I suppose it defeats the purpose to look like a carbon copy style, right down to the lines, and dare I say even the line width. Colors, stylings...the works.

Ah well, if that is the way they want to go with their work, then so be it - i've basically stopped watching a ton of people because of this, I still think they are good artists, yes, but it's just a depressing sight to see their original style disappear into oblivion.

I know how you feel. And yeah, it's more prevalent on FA. I think maybe because I'm more familiar with the anthro fandom than the anime or whathaveyou fandom that I notice a lot of style thieves on here.

I once saw the gallery of an artist who drew nothing but lions in TLK style. They posted a picture of simba trying to get away from a pencil and saying "Don't copy me!"

and when people actually copy a particular picture, I'm amazed that no one else sees it, or at least doesn't say anything. I think I've got a pretty good eye for it when they change a few things up just a bit. I'm really shocked more people don't notice.

See, I adore TLK and its style. It is by far my favorite animated movie. BUT. That style gets sooo old when you come across hundreds of copiers. And sparkle lions. Oh, sparkle lions, I used to love you so.

There was one rather famous TLK artist who posted examples of her different "styles" to prove she could draw stuff that wasn't a Disney ripoff. The only difference in her style and the TLK style examples was that she slapped a little more shading onto hers. I stopped following her stuff after that. It's one thing to be able to mimic on top of being able to be original, but mimicking a style and calling it original is just delusional.

I really don't know where my style is going, everything I finish is pretty different at this point, well maybe not but I really don't have my own style yet so maybe I shouldn't be talking. I'm not trying to copy a style, I try to draw to my liking but i don't know where it''s gonna go or how different I'll really even be.

I'm not really sure what my style is, either. Any running theme is purely unintentional. I think the only thing I recognize in each of my pieces is the eyes, though some of those differ from one another.
