It does? Weird, I say it as one syllable, trying to say it as 2 makes it 'nee-eed'.

The way I was taught is that any time two of the same letter follow one another you split it into two syllables. Like bet-ter. So, I just cheated.

There original line was "I need no validation" because it sounds like 7, but really it isn't.

Where's an English teacher when I need one!?

No, cause need is actually two syllables as I understand it.

konex is right, it's just one; it's not the amount of vowels that make a syllable but rather how the consonants interact with them
in order for it to be two syllables, you'd have to fit a hyphen in somewhere, like the "nee-eed" example

I'm not sure actually. I really don't have time for a refresher course, but I feel like I've forgotten a bunch of rules for this stuff. Also I was taught in Kansas, where evolution is "just a theory". My information may have started out bad.

Also the last line is technically 7 syllables too. Unless I've forgotten the rules of how you split syllables, which is possible. It sounds like 5 though.
