Why won't people stop being stupid and realize that creationism and it's current trojan horse known as intelligent (hah!) design will never and should never be taught in schools! All these nutters want is to throw evolution out of schools and bring bibles into public schools, something that directly VIOLATES the first amendment. Public schools are funded by the government, and the first amendment directly states that the government will not and shall not impose a religious view on it's people.
If you're so desperate to bring Christian values to people, then go out the prothelitize, preach your religion to people, but don't get violent or mean when they decline! Don't force others to believe what you believe, and by forcing creationism and intelligent design into schools you are doing just that. Look overseas, look at the Roman Catholic church and the Pope. Outside of the US you do not see any question about the validity of evolution. Even the Roman Catholic Church has accepted it! Pope John Paul the second went so far as to state when defending the choice to accept evolution, "The Bible is not a guide on how Heaven was made, but a guide on getting to Heaven."
If you want to believe in creationism, go ahead, I don't care, but stop trying to force it into public schools! I've seen and read the arguments for creationism, I've seen numerous interviews of people who head the Creationism Museum, and video taken of tours of the museum, and I find it all to be outragous. Man played with the dinosaurs in the Garden of Eden? Rapid "super evolution" occuring right after the great flood, thus allowing a single pair of canines to rapidly create multiple species of canine in maybe a hundred years without any severe mutations to the species or problems with inbreeding? Water pouring out of the center of the Earth to flood the entire planet and uprooting every tree on the planet without destroying the soil beyond repair? The dinosaurs that romped and played with the humans being buried under all these hundreds of layers of soil while the humans weren't? All of these things that could not happen today caused magically by God all these thousands of years ago, and relying on a single book as their basis for their sciencetific research.
In one of the videos, the head of the museum makes an analogy between the bible being a solid book for comparing science against (even the Pope's head religious scientist states that modern science has only been around for a few hundred years, the bible's a couple thousand years old. That's a big gap between modern science and when the bible was written.) a history book. He states that if someone stated a button was on one of George Washington's jackets, you could do carbon dating to verify it's age, but you'd also go to the books and check to see that it was of the style and type that was from the time period that George Washington lived, and that's how the bible should be used when comparing discoveries in modern science.
His whole argument is bullshit. The book that would accurately list information on buttons would have been fact checked and verified to be true. You can also compare the information in that book with known articles of clothing from that time period. The information in those books are known to be true as well because of the historians who's jobs it is to ensure that the information is true and should any historical information be found that proves previously found assumptions to be wrong, it's evaluated, researched and then the books are changed and updated!
The bible has very little real world information of this type completely verifying the stories within are true. We have been able to verify locations, but the stories of people and the events are still up there with Homer's Illiad. We know the city of Troy existed, we've found the city, but have we found proof of a trojan horse or the legendary Achilleas who's heel was his only weakness? No! That's exactly why we can't use the bible as the basis to evaluate science against. The story of Genesis could be a fairy tale or a complete analogy for when Man went from being a Hunter Gatherer to a Farmer and how he could never really go back to the roaming lifestyle where he merely followed his food to whatever location it went.

They don't teach creationism because some guy in a robe tells you to accept it with no basis whatsoever. :P
but this article... It seems all over the place. I mean what would teaching creationism in school have to do with discipline and tardiness? and what's with the break to talk about a $700-900K athletics field?
I always (well, since I knew what it meant) thought the whole POINT of a public school was to be secular and at least generally unbiased (I know, I know... pipe dream). The trouble with it all is that there is not time between making kids functional and keeping some measure of control, to engage them in a realistic discourse about philosophies and conflicting viewpoints... hell, there is barely time to teach history or see that students can remember the fifty state capitols (honestly, I used to know em...). and now it's like they're standing over the curriculum with a huge syringe full of goo saying "I wonder how much more we can get in there.
it's too much... poor kids...
Also I am a scientist. so I guess none of them would listen. :P
He's R.H. Junior, the guy who does Nip and Tuck. Check his forums, he's not afraid to mention this stuff.
But yes Intelligent Design is a no-go deal, it's not suited to the category under which they seek to teach it. It's not an alternative to Evolution and not scientific and at its heart as the flawed assumption that because we don't currently have all the pieces of Evolution explained that must mean a higher power did it. There's nothing to support that position and it can't be tested to prove one way or another.
As for ID, yes it's religion that's trying to sneak itself in as science without any real science to support it. They are openly lying to try and obtain access. And one of their big arguments is like with the eye. "It's much too complex to have evolved! Therefore it must have been designed by a higher intelligence!"
