I find it hard to fap to black and white, must be the same thing. Color just adds that depth, ya know? I like black and white pics and all, but it just adds a sense of dreariness to it.

for me personally, it's just as easy to find something interesting in black and white as it is in color with regards to drawings, which is why I guess this surprises me somewhat

I've always preferred black & white. There's a lot you can do with that.

I find if I'm looking at a new artist I've found, the thumbnails of black and white pictures are very hard to tell apart, whereas if it's in colour, it's MUCH easier to recognise what's going on so I'm more likely to show interest. That's just me, though.

It's eyecatching, so they chase after it. I've noticed the trend as well.

Colour work, I think, drives a more primitive response, I would guess.

They see it and are immediately drawn out of curiosity, or maybe just at the reaction of more receptors being stimulated due to more colours to focus on.

What about monochrome? Some of the my most liked pics are stuff that only uses two tones.

check their relative popularity; what I'm saying here is that maybe some people like the sharp contrast of grayscale or toned images (especially if the color bleeds out), but it would seem that many or most people seem to like it when color is slapped on a drawing.

Colors make things feel a lot more vibrant and "alive," if that makes any sense; they're a lot more exciting and visually appealing. I find I pretty much always prefer colored pictures to black and white ones, even if the colors are simple flats. Dunno why; it's just a thing, I guess.

Maybe people just identify with color better, or feel that inks are just incomplete or something. Or maybe butts. Butts and freedom fries. :U

For me it depends. Sometimes I like the lineart more if it is clearer than the coloured version.

I still using a CRT monitor, so colors aren't any different on my eyes. I noticed that people using a LCD display tend to have washed out colors that are overwhelmed by the contrast levels and sheer lack of saturation value. In that, I feel like running with a CRT might be the winner's choice as far as art production goes. Colors are just simply more accurate on these things. :\

As far as how people view submissions, I think this goes back to some basic human psychology. Naturally, the eyes are drawn to colors, so if they can see something with colors that contrast against the scrunched up black outlines that just look light gray when shrunk into a thumb nail, it seems natural that people will click and view the colored piece first. I think it also has something to do with contrasts. Low contrasts, when accompanied with low chromatics tend to go unnoticed hand-in-hand where as high contrast and balance tend to grab the attention of people a lot more quickly.

Seeing as I am kinda colorblind, I rarely ever color my work. But I also rarely submit my work unless it is colored, so...

Greyscale is the color of incompetent stay-at-home-moms who can't do anything right.

All depends on the artist. Some folk do great colouring work, some people... should stick to lines and B&W shading. The community must think you do awesome colours. :)

What most of the other people said, it's eye-catching. And given we're on a site where a good portion are just looking for porn (and will rarely look at anything else), that's not really a surprise.

It's unfortunate, because a lot of people use colour to hide shitty underlying art, and get rewarded for it.

Colors can be nice, but I feel that a number of artists actually do their best work in black-and-white. I find that I can appreciate work that has only been lined and shaded as much as colored work, in a number of cases.

Like everyone else said, the eye is drawn to color, so they're more likely to get opened and noticed. "more" going on in the picture, "more effort", etc.

thats true. i notice if pictures have color there is a definitive increase in hits and faves.I like inked pics and color , sketches are fine too as long as they arent too rough.

ive battled this foe to. sometimes i just dont wanna color shit. or dont have time. wanna drink..cigarette.
So i started using colored back drops. something that doesn't just look like a white square :/ its not like...a fix. Just a preference to me

there is a big thing on visualization, even i admit i tend to not notice thumbnails of BW stuff cuz i cant see much right off the bat in the first 1 second of stairing, but color is an obvious contrast to it blalblablablblba

similarly, i've discovered that my submissions with preview thumbnails have MANY more views than those with full-image thumbnails. i honestly didn't think it would make such a difference!

Yep, I've noticed the same. Which is why I try to color all of my pictures. If it's something I wasn't planning on giving color to, I'll just do flats as that's fairly quick, especially when the lines are digital I can just select -> expand by 1px -> flood fill.

For clean artwork I tend to go for colour, yeah. A sketch can be beautiful and I can definitely appreciate them, but when it's serious subject matter it just can't compare to a well-coloured piece.

As for porn I actually view sketches a lot more often than coloured work primarily because you can't tell what the sketch is, exactly, from the thumbnail, a lot of the time. I'd hate to miss out on a good pic just because I couldn't make it out from the thumbnail. But, I get my porn from other sites mostly, so maybe furry logic is different. :B

That's because people tend to view a colored work as "complete". When I've posted b/w work on furbid and here sometimes, I get a "Why don't you finish this?" note or email. To that viewer, a good ink or grayscale is still no better than a rough pencil sketch. They lack appreciation for the skills involved in keeping it simple, and want MORE with a dash of ALL AT ONCE. I blame coloring books.

one of my submissions colored vs uncolored had double the views and favorites (1 to 2 isn't much but i mean it's still doubled)
