Otakon Report
Heyo imaginary friends,
After spending a long Friday and Saturday at Otakon, I'm anime'd out. It's been 4 years since I've been to the massive anime convention and unfortunately, it wasn't as great as I remember.
The panels kinda sucked, the amount of people was stifling, the dealers room was overpriced and someone thought it'd be cute to pull a fire alarm today and cause the whole thing to close down for two hours. The game room was decent, played a few hours of smash bros brawl and Marvel vs Capcom 2, but I'm not competition level to enter any of the tournaments.
The best thing in the con for me was the people I met. I met with the owner of fakku.net and chatted with him for about an hour. My woman wife put a nice drawing in his visitor log/drawbook and bought one of his shirts with a hen wearing a tie (hen-tie, get it?), I wholeheartedly support his translations of hentai mangas. Also met the artist behind VG cats and the guy who runs Snafu.
This year has become the year of Hetalia, I saw at least two dozen cosplayers of every major country represented in the show. Funimation (the evil dubbing company) was pushing the DVD release and holding all sorts of industry and fan panels. My woman wife loves the show, mainly because it encourages fascist countries represented by girly men to have man man relations. As a fan of history, and a much bigger fan of woman woman relations, I hate it. I like comedy animes (2x2 Shinobuden, Ouran HS Host Club, etc) but I guess I don't like Yaoi comedy.
Meh, aside from all that, not really sure what the point of this journal is. Before going to the con, I had a talk with a rather cynical demi-god who was saying that Otakon, Gen-con, and Comic-con had turned corporate whorespace and sucked balls. It wasn't all terrible, my woman wife had a great time cosplaying and got photo'ed like a million times, but I could have done without the massive crowds and lines for everything. We'll be attending some of the smaller cons later this year and hopefully they go a little better.

FA+

Personally I go to cons for the dances and the people, but I'm weird like that. I think that every con is different though, and some years are better than others. Hopefully that means your future cons will be better than this one...
(Also, I agree with your assessment of Hetalia... WW2 yaoi is... I would say tasteless. Yeah it was 70 years ago... But there's some things you shouldn't touch...)
