Commission status: CLOSED? + in the shoes of the client
15 years ago
Got what I needed for the last visit to the dentist in a long while (HOPEFULLY), and I'd like to get back to focusing on PoL/other comic things, so I'm technically closed. Inquiries are still welcome, and who knows? You might catch me on a day I'm feeling dreadfully bored!
Anywho, it's been an exciting few months, wot. I think working where I am has forced me to speed run through art production while still maintaining quality. No complaints there, of course, but I think the other part of it is just not wanting to make people wait for a stupidly long amount of time for things I've been commissioned for, particularly if I've already been paid. Now that I actually have disposable income on occasion, I like to get small things done here and there, to "give back" to the FA community, I suppose. Now, I don't mind waiting when I know I'm in for a bit of a wait from the start (ex: artist has new life event and has already given a heads-up), but to see relatively simple things like bust sketches take a month or more while said artist continues to upload muuuuch more complex pieces from more recent commission batches... To be frank, it pisses me off, but it also gave me something to think about. Admitedly, I have been guilty of this, too, in the past, and I thought to myself, "Hm, this is really pretty sucky. Is THIS what the people who've commissioned me three, two, one year ago felt?"
It might just be new commissioning/you-get-what-you-pay-for-itis on my part, but I don't feel it's right to make people who have paid for a service and who look forward to the results to feel that way, and so, I've been striving to get whatever commissions I get in done in a timely manner. Maybe if a standard is set, who knows? We all might just get the things we pay for a little faster!

FA+

I don't regret it.
But I do concur that outside of extrenuous circumstances, things should move pretty smoothly. I think most people who commission you realise you've got a comic to work on and that it does take up a lot of your drawing time, so we can't really fault you with that. And you've also been REALLY good with communication in the past. Speaking from experience, I still think you handled it all quite professionally. :3
