it's truly is a question of their sanity. Obession with other peoples lives, twisting and contorting it into something they sometime acctually think is real. its pretty crazy.

I think it depends on the information we're given. It always bugs me when characters that are definitely something are typecast into other roles, although I do think it can be skillfully done to fit their character (this I'm usually cool with). I absolutely abhor fanfiction (for instance) in which the characters are absolutely different in character than their real (ie TV) counterparts. I DO, however, really enjoy reading fanfiction where the author fills in the little question marks or gray areas from the TV show/movie/book/whatever, and offers their take (whatever it may be) on the stuff the creator didn't tell us.
