You gotta show me that meme. I'm from lower midstate Hudson Valley and I get the "You're from NY?! IT'S SUCH A BIG CITY" line every single time someone finds out I'm from there. I have to explain there's a much larger state full of all kinds of stuff, and NYC is only one liiiiittle tiny tip of it.

!!!! Hahah holy shit! I went to middle school (Bailey) and high school in Kingston. Originally from New Paltz, moved to the backroads (specifically Rifton) for a longass time. Then moved back to NP, then to Highland, then out to Canada, where I've been ever since (like, 5 years in October). I can't believe I met another Kingstonite. How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? I was in the class of '05 I believe (I got my GED in 10th grade, so I never paid attention to that stuff really).

HOLY CRAPOLA small world, seriously! I went to Miller, and everyone there always said that Bailey was terrifying and full of fights. LIES, all of my current friends went to Bailey and are sweetie pot pies. I also have pals out in Rifton/NP/Gardener, a few of which go to the SUNY school there. How exciting!

I don't know if that was her name, but there was a computer teacher there, very young lady, geeky, dark hair/eyes. I loved her too. Oh, also, Mrs. Gio... something, fuck why can't I remember anyones' names. Giordano? She was also amazing. I have more teachers I hate than love from that school, but the ones I love are like, permanently seared into my heart. If Giordano still had that big signed chair, you would have seen my sig with a drawing of an earwig on it. :D

Also, AAAA Mrs. Giordano was like a second mother to me<3 I loved her forever! Big signed chair... I don't think there was one of those, but when I go in to visit, I'll definitely ask about it! JEEZ THIS IS AWESOME.

PS, when I went to Bailey, it was horrible, and there were knife fights in the hallways and stuff. I went from New Paltz Lenape Elementary (gorgeous elementary school) straight to 6th grade in Bailey, and it was terrifying. The first day of 6th grade, a kid was pushed through a 2nd story window onto the parking lot below and the ambulance had to take him away. FIRST DAY. Also, my teachers (and all the students in the school, too) were the most horrible people I have ever known. It was a complete cesspool. I became really suicidal during 7th and 8th grade, and this ASSHOLE, Mr. Ten Eyck, told me to "just kill myself already" right before class started, with this huge shit-eating grin. I was too shocked to report it, but even if I had, I don't think the principal would have done anything.

I lived in New Paltz for a while! College town, right? Halloween came round, lots of loud crazy parties in certain areas of town?

Yep, though there's a big difference between the college kids and the actual locals. ;)

And yeah, Halloween's even more of a sacred tradition there than like, Christmas.

After being there a coupla times, its made me appreciate how much smaller a place NYC is when compared to a lot of 'big' cities, London being a case in point, being that is one big massive sprawling metropolis which has little or nothing breaking it up, save the Thames River. I haven't seen this hicky meme but I'm sure its bs from the sounds of it!

Yeah, the thing is, a lot of people take the entire metropolis into account when they say NYC, including Newark and Yonkers and stuff, so it seems a lot more massive than it really is. Then I show them a map of Manhattan Island and they look completely confused, haha. I'm currently living in a Canadian city that's one of the largest cities in the world surface area-wise (it's just stupidly sprawling) and they don't believe me when I say NYC can fit into this city like, 10 times over.

Seattle and NYC are the only big cities I've ever been to, and even those aren't so big! It's interesting how NYS is so freaking massive, and yet a lot of people forget that the rest of it exists HAHAHA

Manhatten itself fascinates me with how small it actually is, walking from east to west only takes under an hour which just blew my mind when I did it! I'd love to have seen more of NY like Brooklyn and Queens but they always seen kind of out of the way so to speak. NEXT TIME MAYBE.

Brooklyn is so cute! You have to come to an Everybody Day, so that you can see Prospect Park! IT'S HUUUUGE you'd never think NYC would have so many trees inside of it!

I remember once in 1990-something we had a tornado around here.. it was really scary. I was like, single digits age so I was freaking out and hiding in the basement, meanwhile mom was on the 2nd story sleeping while the house creaked and rain poured down...man that was an intense afternoon.
