I need help from someone who knows about computers pwease!

My netbook has just started playing up. It literally happened a couple of days ago. Lemme explain;
I was browsing the internet when all of a sudden, it started going super slow and instead of the regular 'ticktickticktcik' it makes when it's loading, it started going 'tick-tick-tick-ticktick-tick-tick-tick' if that makes sense. it then crashed, and a blue screen appeared with white writing that said something along the lines of 'Windows has encountered an error and has had to terminate. If this is the first time this has happened, restart you computer. If not, follow these steps blah blah'. So i restarted and it has been like this ever since (though i haven't seen the blue screen again).
I am running Windows XP on an Advent net book. I have had it about a year. I have run virus and adware checks and both have proved fruitless.

Did you buy it new? And if so, do you still have all the CDs it came with? If Windows somehow screwed up, you'll need to have Windows fix itself, which isn't too hard.
If you have an IM, add me and I'll guide you though it.
I did buy it new, and yes, i still have everything it came with, including discs.
If you don't mind, i will add you because i would really appreciate the help! ^^

Oh, and i downloaded Kaspersky and i'm pretty impressed so far. ^^
Actually (touch wood!) it appears to have sorted itself out. It's not running as slow now. That was strange.
I did back up all my important files and photos onto cd, so there is nothing important that isnt backed up on here now. So is it does fail, i'm not in the shitter! Lol
