Meme Series: The Interview (Part 1)

The following is a transcribed log taken from an interview recording.
Session One:
"Test, test, play-- For the record, please state your name and any applicable titles?"
"Commodore Vasage, Daniel Anthony."
"Is there any history behind your name?"
"As I understand it, my great uncle was the Anthony for who I am named. Daniel was my father's best man at his wedding. Why he chose those two, I do not know."
"What about family: are you single or taken?"
(Deep Sigh) "Officially, I never married. I consider myself a widower, though."
"Any other family members?"
"I have little doubt that there are extended relations still among the living, but time has taken those I held dear."
"How about pets?"
"No, this life does not allow for such luxuries."
"Do you have any unique abilities or special/magical powers?"
"We live in a universe of a multitude of unusual happenings. However, I am as normal as anyone can be."
"Stop being a Mary-Sue."
"I beg your pardon?"
"If you were to get into a fight with a strong wrestler, do you think you'd win?"
"Back in the day, I might have stood a chance against someone in their prime. Now, I'm far too old to be doing that sort of thing."
"Cool, I guess. Tell me something that you don't like."
"Politics, for one; too many people ordering others to die so they can have shiney stars on their collars. People that think their troops are just numbers or resources
to be expended achieving goals. Liars and hypocrites are also on the list."
"And on the other side, something that you do like?"
"A good soldier, and not the kind you see on the vids. I mean one that knows when to follow orders, when a mission has to be aborted, and can be trusted to do his
damnedest to accomplish the mission objectives."
"Do you have any activities or hobbies that you like to do?"
"I do enjoy reading very much, and war-games also help to take off the tension from time to time."
"Have you ever hurt anyone in anyway before? Or, even killed them?"
"I have ordered men to their deaths. I have planned and carried out actions that have left widows and orphans in the hundreds and thousands. Does that answer your
question?"
"What kind of animal are you?"
"The Latin is Procyon lotor: the raccoon"
"What are some of your worst habits?"
"I've been told that I can, at times, micromanage too much. An old habit I picked up from my time as a supply officer, I suppose."
"Do you look up to anyone at all?"
"Well, there once was this... No, that is in the past. Everyone I once idolized is either dead or a traitor."
"Are you gay, straight, or bi?"
"I suppose that asexual would be the best fit."
"Do you go to school?"
"Every day is a learning experience."
"Do you plan to marry and have kids one day?"
"A funny thing about people: you cannot replace them. The day my beloved died, so too did my plans for offspring."
"Do you have any fan girls or fan boys?"
"I honestly doubt anyone knows of me well enough to fit into that category."
"What are you most afraid of?"
"Sending someone to a senseless death.
"What color is your hair?"
"Brown."
"And your eyes?"
"Green, with brown flecks."
"What do you usually wear?"
"I keep five or six standard uniforms ready, though I do have a dress uniform should a situation require it."
"What is your religion?"
"My choice of spirituality is a private matter."
"Where do you live?"
"I've spent the last... Too many years on this ship. It's home to me, now."
"What class are you?"
"By class, you mean social strata? My parents were farmers. I'm a flag officer now."
30.) How many friends do you have?
Plenty.
"If you could change anything about you, what would you change?"
"I'd make it so that I was there to save her."
"If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?"
"I'd find a way to set it up in some sort of investment fund, the dividends paying out to the family of those lost to battle."
"What's your favorite food?"
"There's this one meat stew that my mother used to prepare... It's been too long, but it was my favourite for as long as I can recall."
"And your favorite drink?"
"I prefer to stick to water or mixed juices, but I do enjoy a good ale from time to time."
"What is your favorite place?"
"My personal quarters; there's no better place to relax to a good piece of literature and some soft music."
"And your least favorite?"
"Battle, without a doubt. Though it still gets the adrenaline going, I don't like knowing that I am responsible for the deaths of others, no matter how necessary it may be."
"Thank you for your time."
