I agree with you that a real 3d software is much much better to use and more fun to experiment (once you get over the steep learning curve). Currently modelling a gun (an antique rifle) and it is starting to make shape. I treat it like my puppy *holds it preciously* In seriousness though, I do feel proud when I can claim that I did it from the ground up, creating the model, texturing and then finishing on the normal maps to step back and admire at your work, which is something that you can get in SL (imo).
