Q:vageta want is the price of this BIG long hot dog?
i need alittle help for shading my pic. sometime i don't know what the hell am doing. help please?
For the shading color I usually take the color I'm darkening and turn it down like 25% in brightness. For a more subtle look use less.
Since you're new to shading I would suggest hard line border anime style shading like I did (and still do) on my early pics. Paint really isn't going to give you fine enough control to do smooth shading.
You need to pic a direction the sun is in. For starters, I would just make it directly overhead since that is easiest. (That's what I usually do anyway. ^_^)
So pretend the light is coming directly from above. Imagine where the shadows would be. You can also hold your hand up right under a strong light and see this if you need examples. Usually I shade the lower half of anything that sticks out. Pay attention to how the shadows curve along the object.
So the lower side of the fingers, arms, maybe a 3rd under the boobs and they probably cast a small shadow on the chest right below them. Under the nose, tufts of hair on her head, halfway down the top lengthwise part of the pink in her ears.
The rump and right thigh are pointing forwards, so maybe just a slight shadow on them. The left leg is pointing inwards, so most of the front of that leg would be in shadow. Same thing with her hair - most of the light would be on the back of her hair, but the underside that we see is all in shadow, so shade most of it. But you'll want to leave the edges bright (and same thing goes for that left leg, too) so it doesn't look simply like it's a different color.
Might want to do the chin/lower part of the face with a curved shadow (actually, a lot of the shadows should have some curviness to them so her appendages don't appear log-like :) ). But if it looks like she has a beard skip the chin shadow and just do a shadow on her neck (do it anyway since her head should be casting a shadow on it.)
Her toes should get some curved shadows, and maybe under the collarbone lines too, though since you already have dark lines there indicating its existence it might not be needed.
Yeah, it's going to be a bit tough since you use Paint. A program with layers is very helpful since you can create a layer for the shadows, draw entirely in black and simply change the layer opacity to like 25-50%. Then if you make a mistake it only affects the shadow layer and the original color is still intact. If you know how to install software you could always get a free art program like Paint.net which has layers and I use it for all my work, especially when I do the simple anime-style shading. :)
Hope this helps a bit! Shading is rather complicated, isn't it? ;)
