I survived DINOSAURS!

Last night, as the main part of my birthday present (I'm turning 43 next weekend :P ), we went to see Walking With Dinosaurs, The Live Experience!
It was held in the Tacoma Dome, because obviously a very TALL venue is required...and we had front row seats, on the end, directly across from the screen where background video was displayed. There were two acts, and it was mostly done as a scientific narrative homorously delivered by a "paleontologist" who walked around on the stage area and explained when we were and what dinos were there and how they lived. It was well written and performed and interesting, but it would have been fairly dull and dry without the...FULL-SIZED DINOSAURS WALKING AROUND THE STAGE WITH HIM!!!!
It was spectacularly cool! The smaller creatures like the Utahraptors and the baby T-Rex were largish costumes/puppets with people inside controling them. Their legs were visible, so there was a certain degree of suspension of disbelief required. (It was like the Lion King stage play, where the animals are performed as puppets and you just ignore the obvious puppeteers.)
But the true glory of the thing were the beautifully engineered, incredibly, amazingly massive Brachiasaurs, the fairly large brutish Allosaurus, the wonderfully bulky Steggosaurs with the huge dorsal plates glowing red when they became angry, along with several other species--fifteen in all, I believe. But we were really all waiting for, and were completely blown away by the appearence of HER majesty--the mighty Tyrannasaurus Rex! That was a fantastic moment!
The mechanisms running the creatures were easy to see, though they were camoflaged as best they could be, but that didn't take away from the shear, awesome specical of these gigantic creatures moving around the stage in such a fluidly life-like way. It was truly wonderful--made me feel like a kid again. Seeing a movie of dinos has no comparison to seeing such massive structures in person moving around and swinging near you.
Having said that, I'm still going to include a URL for a U-Tube video from the show, just so you can get a glimpse of what it was like to see. Being there live is definitely a stunniong experience. If it comes to a city near you, I avidly recommend going to see it!

All dinosaurs, all the time! Forget them wacky FURS--dang mammals!
The costume contest would reflect size and power over accuracy...
Remember: "In the beginning, God created the Heavens and Google Earth."
