I thinking of making a gay character and need help. I was thinking of making him lion, but any advice or suggestion on species, personality, look, or just general stuff is welcome.

Well, some important questions to ask...
1a. What's the character for? IOW, what the character will be used for will help define how much detail you need for the character. If the character is supposed to be in art and be teh pretteh, then you might not need to worry much about understanding the character. If the character is for a Roleplay-by-Post or Story, you might want more background.
1b. Is he a one-off or a character you want to work with a lot? The amount of energy spent on developing a character is directly proportional to the amount of time you want to spend thinking, writing, drawing, or otherwise interacting with this character. Remember, in the end, a character is practically another person with their own likes, hates, wants, needs, fears, hopes, dreams, fetishes, and hangups.
1c. The 5 W's (Who, What, Where, When and Why) and H (How) are very helpful for character development. For example, a quick one-off character ( you may not even need to ask this many questions).
Who is Silver Palth (General statement, 1 sentence): A gay, loner swift stormsaber/human hybrid.
What is Silver Palth (G1S): A minor protagonist support character; warrior-class type character.
When is Silver Palth (G1S): The present time frame, August 21, 2010 1058 ET
Where is Silver Palth (G1S): KY
Why is Silver Palth (G4S): He escaped from a laboratory where genetic engineers spliced multiple feline DNA strands with Human DNA. He was the result and managed to escape after 9 years or actively trying.
How is Silver Palth(G4S): Lonely, but his brusque personality tends to make forming lasting, worthwhile relationships difficult -- not the mention he's a 7' tall huge, lean-build, densely-muscled, furred cat-person. A little difficult to be inconspicuous.
If you want to chat about it, then just IM me (I think it's listed in my profile). I might be able to be a better sounding board that way.
