Business name help~
Derp, I'm going to be registering for an ABN soon, buuut I need a name for it D: I've had a pretty bad time thinking of names :C
Keep in mind this is for a taxidermy business and I'm after sensible names :P
Ones I like but are already taken:
The Artistry Of Wildlife (Broad, not specifying taxidermy, but epic sounding name!)
Autumn Creek Taxidermy (Sounds cool :P I was pondering Winter Creek Taxidermy, but it seems kinda random?)
Mum came up with Wildlife Gallery, its a maybe but not sure on it really. Gallery sounds a bit artsy haha
Help D:

And that's just the first thing that popped into my head.
I have "Diasis Designs" registered, but I was first turned down for that name, because there were a few businesses using Diasis in their name.
It's stupidly frustrating that the majority of information about ABNs and such here in AU is either to do with the IT industry, retail, FARMING, or otherwise straight, black and white business types. You can specify your business precisely on your ABN application, however there is little to no information about 'artists' in the general term, other than Media/Web Design/IT related.
What's also quite handy, is if you get yourself sorted, you should be able to start claiming your art supplies and stuff - and even digital equipment directly necessary to your business; Cameras, computers, etc - on your tax return. :3
>:3 I totally planned on doing that! Once I get it I plan on going on a bit of a spending spree at Bunnings to get more woodworking stuff, plus a drill and other general good things :D! But a nice set of copic markers would be pretty sweet too haha I've got too many idea's on stuff I could get and claim D:
Also, another recommendation... get yourself a big hardcover book that's just going to be scrap, ie, not interested in reading it. Best idea ever for preserving receipts, because storing many receipts with plastics will make them fade. D:
I had that problem myself, and although it will only be an issue if I'm audited, it was a big scare to have a $1250 receipt for a computer end up almost completely blank!
Yeah dad said I should get either a credit or debit card for keeping track of business expenses, as it is I bearly check my normal savings so having it all on one account is pretty much a must haha. I do need to check out which bank has the best rates and fees though, atmo I'm with ANZ for everything and their's don't seem too bad, but I havn't looked seriously with other banks yet.
I'll keep the book idea in mind D: I was planning on getting a folder with plastic sheets, but yeah maybe not! I plan on getting a few expensive things at first and having receipts fade could be a disaster considering I need everything to check out when I apply for a work visa.
See, main reason I registered Diasis was because I use that as my signature, as well, for *all* my things. I just can't make my full name look good as a signature. WJW can get really messy. XD
If you've already got ANZ, I'm pretty sure you should be able to get an account fairly easily set up through them. I wouldn't recommend StGeorge, however, because there is *always* a delay with transfers, and although they were the first to reduce their fees greatly, they still lack a bit everywhere else as a second-tier bank. ANZ, Commonwealth, being the top-tier ones, of course. So I can recommend either of those. If all else fails, also if you get a same-bank account, using phone banking you can make quick transfers into your business account for purchasing specific things while out and about. Very handy. X3
Best of luck to you! At the very least, getting a good amount of things to claim, will give you a nice present later on at the end of the financial year! :3
Yeah, I already have one debit card with ANZ for online stuff and that was super easy to set up.
:D Thank you <3!! you've been a ton of help! Got a few more idea's and know a little more about what to do :D hehe the end of financial year would be pretty awesome!
Will check out the flexirent thing a bit more, but I'm probably going to go with a credit card to get a bit more of a credit history, might as well use it to my advantage :D
*grins and hugs* You're welcome! At the very least will make it a lot easier and less stressful for you to get set up. Something I'm totally all for. Glad to be of assistance. <3
Credit card might actually be the better idea, yes, just don't get caught by the urge to put cash advances on it - IE, taking cash from it, instead of just making purchases on it. Majority of credit options have high fees on their Cash Advances, whereas purchase are reasonably competitive. :3
*huuuuuuuugs* <3 Yeah, the main reason I havn't done anything sooner is because I knew pretty much nothing about it and I'd read through a bit, most of it related to totally different things and I'd just stress out n leave it xD reminds me of reading through all the visa info D: its all so vague, but gives you just enough info to get a bit of an idea haha. Learnt my lesson with the visa stuff not to trust government stuff when its vague :C!
Oooh, will remember about that cash advance thing D: sounds like a pretty easy trap to fall into if you didn't know about it.
*purrrs, wagwagwags his tail* <3 Like most things, it's far, far too easy to procrastinate on such a thing and leave it for another time, but there are so many pros than cons when you finally get it done. Like also being able to work with wholesale companies, that generally require you to open an account with them with a registered ABN to give proof of not being just a consumer. Couple places out there like that. And yes! Those visa people were such a pain! XD
It is! An old trick to pay for a credit card's monthlies so you don't get the late fees, is to take a cash advance, and then slap it straight back on. But being a cash advance, it's still going to rack up the high-percentage-interest compared to the mid to low interest you'd pay on purchases. X3
Hahaha interesting trick xD I think I'll stick to just purchases, save some monies and sounds a whole lot easier :P
Even places like Campbells Cash 'n Carry, a supermarket-for-business is a handy plus, because with an ABN you can get an account/card from them and buy *boxes* of stuff. Just try not to go overboard with it! :3 That silk plant company is a perfect example, though!
I do hope it helps out greatly with the work visa, though, because that should definitely make it easier to get a trip to the US for your Taxidermy school. :3 Dandy should do that one day, if he can save up the money for getting up there. Mmm.
>:3 uhoh, an account with somewhere like Campells would be pretty bad for me haha I'd spend waaayyy too much in there xD
:D I'm trying not to get tooo hopeful this time, but it does look like with an ABN I'll have a much better chance of going on a work visa than any of the other visa types I can get.
Dandy should do it :D would be super awesome, but yeah, the courses so expensive :C but totally worth it :D
My family did that, when they started their karate dojo and did a little catering for it. Suddenly, boxes of drinks, and caterers bags of spicy crumbed chicken drumsticks. XD
Yessssss. On both counts; I may have to help Dandy out with that, when I get my own career rolling. Which is going sloooow. Or motionless at the moment, as I'm waiting for some durn paperwork. Wah.
At the very least, when you come back, you can help share your knowledge with Dandy some time!
Ooohh, nom! That would have been pretty awesome :D!
Aww :C damn paperwork is so bad haha how is all your career stuff going? :P Other than motionless haha
:3 Once I've done this course n gotten semi set up I do want to help Dandy out with it, going over there is so expensive and I can at least teach him some of it :D
Paying $57 and a bit per month for a system that was $1000 or so, every dollar tax deductible. Very handy if you have a steady cash flow. Although a credit card can do the exact same thing!
what about that?
Forever Fauna
