New equipment -important- please read!
Hello everybody!
Recently, I was able to gather some funds. And I'm planning on making part of my wishlist become true...
So I'm decided to buy the new Canon EOS 7D, it is an amazing camera, the ISO performance is stunning and you get HD video recording to play with as well.
Now for some glass...
I was planning on buying the EF 100-400 L and the 24-70 2.8L BUT... As some of you may know, some rumors are spreading through the photography community and they are: replacement replacement replacement.... As far as I know [and the canon rumors blog for that matter] Canon has a 24-70 f2.8 IS [that is right, the best lens available will incorporate Image Stabilization] baking on the oven as well as some white-glass replacement the 100-400 being among them...
So my big concern is, will the new toys be available by the time I'm buying the stuff? Which is going to happen by early November when I have a trip to NY scheduled... And yes, you guessed right, I'm going to expend HOURS [read: money] in the B&H store looking stuff up!
So please give your ADVICE/opinion on that matter!
And sorry for the bad English!

All the same, even if they do require a replacement, as long as you buy them new, they should come with a warranty. So at the very least, you could use them, and replace them if need be, until one of the possible new lenses comes out. Then simply sell off the old one, and put that money toward the newer one. At any rate, it all depends on what you'll be doing with the lenses. I find a lot of people leave out details when bad-mouthing a product. "This lens was terrible and didn't stand up to my use" fails to mention that they probably jumbled it around, shot in dirty conditions, and who knows what else. Not that every photographer is really that careless- but opinions are just that- opinions. *Winks*
In the end, I wish you luck in your purchase. I'd love to get my paws on one of those higher-end Canons, but alas, the life of the poor affords no such delights. *Laughs*
Well, first I'd like to say that Canon is slowly releasing the new lenses, so far, it announced 2 primes, 2 zooms and 2 teleconverters... perhaps the most interesting to me is one of the zooms, it is the 70-300 f4-5.6L IS ( http://www.canonrumors.com/2010/08/.....00-f4-5-6l-is/ )... It is not a direct replacement for the 100-400 but I'm hoping to see some image quality improvement with this new one. Also rumors have it that canon is planning a new 5D mrk II kit with a 24-70 f2.8L IS so perhaps we didn't see all the new stuff yet... I'm so praying for this last one to come true (24-70 IS)... But I guess I'll have to wait until late September to find out...
Sadly what you said about people getting the wrong lenses for their use is a true story, most people don't realize how important a well matched set of lenses are... For me, perhaps the most important is having a general-purpose fast lens... That is why I'm going for the 24-70 f2.8L [IS maybe???]. The 100-400 is designed for wildlife, mostly during the day so it don't need to be a fast lens by all means [I'm considering DoF as well] and since I already have a wide-angle zoom [the EF-S 10-22mm], my set would be complete with those other two...
Also my trip was postponed to January... Not sure when yet, but at least it gives more time to the new babes to arrive!
