Why is the Wedding Dress most important on your special day?

I mean the magical rainbow poke`ball founded in ancient Egypt but is in Exibit at Hogwarts, being protected by walking mops.
￣＼＿(゜∀゜)＿／￣ Seriously. We all know it is for a bride. The have her perfect wedding dress. Whether you spent several months shopping for one and exercising to fit into it (or in my mom's case, you lose weight to to stress and have to get it tailored again before the wedding, haha.). Or spending forever making it.
I mean, I just had a dream where I spent years designing a dress, and months making it, only to find out it had gotten stolen, and destroyed and dumped on my front steps just the day before the wedding. Scary huh? What going would NOT cry?
So, I am to ask you this, why do you think the wedding dress is so important? And if it's not that important to you (I'm speaking to the girls, here) then that's probably a good thing, but pick out something decent for your weddings.
for the rest of us who are like.. OMG. .. why? I never really did come across WHY.

XD If I ever get married I'm getting married in my damn pajamas and dragging my poor mate back to bed for the rest of the day. To do things that do not include sleeping.
I think it does have to do alot with dominance deep inside, but why do you think it even screams to little girls MOST IMPORTANT.
Also, I also love how some brides make their bridesmaid's dresses as ugly as possible.
And nyuu.. don't get married in pajamas! Get married in a nightgown!
Well a lot of it is media. Think about it, what do you see when you google wedding? Wedding dresses!
