But....I didn't get the job.
} simply filled out an application.

They ALWAYS say "tell me a little bit about yourself!" Basically, the key is to sell yourself as a good and reliable employee without looking like you're faking it. Probably be casual. Say things like "I have a lot of friends, participated in clubs in high school, am interested in art, got good grades etc. etc." Also, if you have lots of knowledge about video games, I'm sure that like... really means something to them HAHAHA

I have been to 4 failed interviews in the past 5 years of looking for a job. I have no idea what the hell I am doing wrong. D:

Hm... that's weird! Just pretend to be interested, if you're not. But don't sound too desperate, you know? Also, make sure your shoes and fingernails are clean! Those two things say a lot about people, or so my myth teacher says.

Sounds like the guy likes you, so be calm and just relax. A little humor got me my job, sounds like the manager has a good sense of humor.

Google interview tips, but don't trust all of them, just the ones that seem like common sense or make sense.

Just throw on something that's clean, really.

Slogans are a-okay if they're universally positive, but not ones that make fun of something in particular.

It's a gamestop, so no business suit required.

I was thinking a nice tank top, jeans and sneakers but..I dunno. XD Maybe khakis.

Try dressing up nice, or wearing what we have to wear for uniforms (I recently got hired at a gamestop xD), jeans and a button up shirt :3

Also expect a few questions on game knowledge. Nothing hardcore, but, know the different consoles and the different sizes/styles they come in (360 arcade, pro, and slim, etc).

Most of all just come off as cheery, sociable and reliable, should do you good with the manager :3

Also the girl comment below is totally true xD Being female gives you a big one up, though don't sell yourself short on your looks. I'm fugly as hell and fat, and I wasn't passed over xD (for one job in my life :p)

I do have some nice jeans, and a light tightish button down shirt, plus skater shoes to hopefully make me seem like a fun tomboy who isn't TOO tomboyish LOL.

I am getting a lot of advice, I certainly hope I get this one!

depending on how many girls they have working/applying to work, your chances are probably rather good to get hired with minimal effort. This is one job where having boobs does get you ahead XD i've seen GameStop hire mostly incompetent girls with a smidge of video game knowledge. Basically, they are supposed to have a staff that is half male/half female, but far more guys end up there than girls simply because its still more guys who are serious about video games.

in all honesty though, just be upbeat and be able to hold a conversation about games. They like people who at least can act upbeat and chipper. Hell, if you are lucky, you'll come in for your interview and be put straight on the payroll without one like what happened to me xD

I'm not either, and i ended up losing the job to a much prettier girl after a change in management >_> If the manager who hired me had stayed at that store i would still have the job i bet.. but he changed to my fiance's store about a month after i started working there and the new one was a little more superficial... :< unfortunately, i have no way to prove that that was why i was laid off instead of her...

they may ask you what you know about video games, ask what your favorite one is, ask you what game you think is bad and a reason why, may put you in a situation where you have to talk them out of buying a game and explaining why it is bad for a kid, stuff like that

I'd say pick a few big titles, Wiki/Google them, then pretend like you've played them. Parrot the reviews, if you must.

If they hit you with a 'by the books' interview, which may be required of them, expect annoyingly vague questions that have to be answered with BS. Like "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" or "Describe a time in your life where you've had to solve a difficult problem, and what steps you took and how you prioritized which steps to take first." or "Describe a time when you had to finish something by a certain deadline and had to work with others." Those sorts of things. For the most part(for any interview at any level), be aware of yourself and enthusiastic, but stay relaxed.

On a tangent, I was once asked at an interview, "Why is a manhole cover round?". Apparently this is a well-known 'classic' question, so much that they rarely ask it anymore - but I'd never encountered it before then... =P

I am gonna Google the right answers, I think. :P

Seriously, they don't care about your gamer abilities. You can not know shit about games and be AMAZING at Gamestop. In fact that's probably the best way to do well.

Eh, just know the generals and you'll do fine. Also mention you're eager to learn about everything.

PIck something you know a lot about (like Pokemon) and fixate on that when he asks you game-related questions. One that my manager asked me was "If you could be any video game character, who would it be?" and I responded "Ash from Pokemon, because he's a good leader and although he's the one in charge, he manages to keep all those he leads loving him and happy to work for him.'

In reality I just don't know a ton of characters. XD

Like a few days ago I ask "hey do you have Dynasty Warrior 6 for PS2, and they guy went, no, it only for PS3.
I went "no, its for PS2, PS3 and 360" and we went back and forth and I ended it with "I bet my paycheck of 400USD that it is for the PS2 also", so he got smug and checked, and went "...yea...we have some in stock..."

LOL. Ok, I wouldn't be THAT bad.

I think you'll be fine if you can put up with idiot folks, I cant cause I'll be the type who wouldnt let parents buy M-rated games for their child. I mean if I have to play halo 3 one more time with some 7-10 year old on it, I'm not responsible for that kid learning new words.

I am generally patient with ignorant people in real life, at least when I am trying to educate them.
