Never been in a poly relationship, however I am not opposed to the idea and actually encourage it, however I also understand that an poly relationship is not for the feint of heart. It takes a special kind of people who actually love one another without ever being jealous, and can not only enjoy the company that's directly outside their relationship but be willing to embrace said others with, if not the same then at least some measure of love that's just as deep.

I foresee extremely few people capable of such in today's society due to how we are bombarded on a daily basis, since we are tiny tots, on what a "real" relationship is and furthermore we have no icons for a real polygamous relationship other than the extremely biased version perpetuated by Mormons. We inherently understand the general idea of what a poly relationship consists of, but it goes against everything we are taught to such an extreme that most times we simply don't know how or even if we are capable of having them ourselves.

Lastly, there really are people out there who are better in a monogamous relationship due to their personality and their developed or naturally occurring bend towards jealousy.

I've been in both poly relationships and monogamous ones. I prefer monogamy because I've too many hangups with jealousy and such to be a polygamist. I guess it basically boils down to this: If I think one person is good enough for me, I really want the other party to feel the same way about me, especially when the L-word starts being tossed around. YMMV.
