Dealer's Den
I'm thinking of starting the transition from Artist's Alley to Dealer's Den. Here's a list that I'm working on of all the things I would want to have.
*A binder full of printouts, pictures of pipeys I've made in the past. It would probably be arranged by either species or price. Probably price.
*I need another batch of business cards, I've run out of the first batch. It wasn't all that great anyway, so I was hoping
thesomething would help me design a better one.
*I need floppybelly.com to be better-looking, so that people are more impressed when they actually pick up a business card for later use.
*I'm working on a nice collection of small to medium-sized boxes, so that people can take their pipeys home without fear of them being crushed. I would like to be able to have some stick-on labels to put on the boxes, to cover up the "Eggo" and "McCormick" ('cause the boxes come from Walmart.) Then the boxes could actually have my name on them!
*I would want a sign or banner to put on the table, to look snazzy and help people find me. I'm thinking I could be listed as "Custom Pipeys by floppybelly"
*Some display shelves would be nice, that way my collection of pre-made pipey examples could be displayed vertically instead of horizontally, thus leaving me more room on the back part of the table for working.
*I'm a wheresgeorge.com bill tracker, and as a dealer, I'd (hopefully) be having a lot of bills changing hands. It might get too busy to write it on each one, so it would be nice to have a wheresgeorge stamp... Especially if it had my screen name on it! Anyone know where custom stamps can be ordered?
*A lot of people travel with only their credit card, instead of cash, and I don't want to have to turn those people away! I've seen dealers who have a mobile system for swiping credit cards, but I don't know anything about it. I need one of those things.
*I would want to bring a postage scale, because I'm trying to pin down a more solid way of pricing pipeys. I'm thinking that if I priced them a certain amount per ounce, that could make it more standardized.
*Possibly a timer, that could also factor into price, if not make me more focused.
*I'd like to have a better camera maybe, so my pictures of the pipeys don't always come out half-out-of-focus.
*I need a good backdrop, maybe a light purple that would make the pipeys show up more professionally in their photographs.
*Sales sheets for my personal use, to keep track of who ordered what, how big, if they've paid, if they've picked up, if it was photographed, that sort of thing.
*Some people have requested How-To books, so if I were able to write those, I'd need to find someone to print them for me. I need estimates of what people would be willing to pay for them, so I know how long and picture-filled to make them.
*In order to be in the Den, I need a Pennsylvania tax license. Remind me to finish the application for that.
*I'm working on an Easter Egg advertising campaign, so I need some eggs to stuff.
*I had the idea of selling pipeys in the option of a themed mobile, for decoration. If I did that, I'd need some kind of frame to hang them by. And some kind of string, more professional than just yarn. Fishing line, perhaps?
*
2gryphon suggested that some people would rather have their pipey as a trophy, instead of as a poseable toy. If that's the case, they might need a jewel-case to put the pipey on their shelves. I'd need some kind of fixative, too, possibly.
* A dealer's table is an additional 75 dollars.
* I need to figure out how to sign up for table-neighbors, so I'm next to my favorite people!
I'd very much appreciate feedback on this. Do you think I should attempt to make this transition? If so, is there anything on the list that I'm missing? Anything you have suggestions on? If you think I shouldn't make the attempt, why not? What would I need to do in order to be ready to attempt it?
ALSO! I have a lot of beanie babies that I need to get rid of. Please take them off my hands! I'll probably make another journal sometime with a list of which ones I have.

Regarding the fixative: You can use Velcro and it works great on pipeys. Not the soft side (Loop) but the rough side (hook). There are industrial distributors out there that will sell one or the other sides of velcro at varying widths. You can also buy it in pre-cut circles or with sticky (PSA) back or sew-on type. There's a lot of options out there. But, i suggest go to your local walmart or sewing store, buy a small pack of velcro and try it out. Once you find the type you like the most, then buy it from a distributor. If you buy it all from walmart, you're wasting half of it since they only sell it with both (hook and loop) sides.

What about for the jewel cases themselves? Know any good places to get a deal on them?

I got no resources there. Perhaps try going to a container store, find something there that will work, search the manufacturer's name online & find a distributor for it instead of going retail.
