NaNo Novel: Here Falls The Thunder
Meh. No really, meh. I didn't use it myself, I had friends who would link me to it, but for the most part I never paid much attention to it. Then it gets shut down, Arcturus gets into a huff, and the internet backdraft (on both sides of the war) exploded into glorious, glorious flames.
But then there was this...

I mean, really. I've had my site reported six times for illegal content. And it keeeps on chugging! ISPs require actual proof of crimes to be shut down, and law enforcement need lots of hard evidence. Calling something illegal because it's questionable but legal does not get you far. (For those curious, I host vaporware and shareware from the 70's and 80's whose copyrights have lapsed or the companies holding the copyright went defunct without the rights being renewed or purchased by a new company. It's mostly Atari being butthurt, but the world already knows they failed to follow copyright procedure on their games from that era, thus causing the Great Videogame Depression.)
On the other hand, I have had sites shut down for actually having illegal content. And DMCA/Copyright issues are very, VERY rarely successful at doing so, unless it's handled by a professional attorney.
So, I smell either a Big Fat Lie, or a felony. Or possibly a really, really paranoid ISP. I eagerly await proof of one of these possibilities.
Huh. This is true. Even assuming the people who own the servers got a little paranoid, it was Arc who took down e621, not them. So, even with the CP charges and illegal content claim, as long as these charges weren't true (which according to Arc they aren't) then what's the problem? Eh, whatever. Varka of Bad Dragon is taking over e621 anyway. As I thought, it wouldn't stay down for long.

FA+

I was right!
Too bad I bet against myself.
Then some fans of FurNation rebuilt it using a "make your own online community" thing, and it's... not quite the same. It's more like a MySpace now. I applaud them for keeping it alive amongst the drama created by former owner Nexxus though.
The whole "I just don't want to deal with it anymore" excuse feels like BS overall. He'd been dealing with it for what, 3 years? What was one more complaint amidst the ton he supposedly was drowning in already? It does feel a little suspicious. Maybe he did find something that REALLY shouldn't have been there, and rather than admit there was some truth to the claim IK made, he just took it all down?
Who knows.
You big meanie.
There was also stuff from Jay Naylor's buy only adult catalogs and hardblush pay only stiff on there. it may not have been illegal histong child porn but it was definitely hosting illegal content.
You have to expect that if you post art to one site, it may very well be posted to others over time.
You can't expect to keep everything private once something has been posted or accessed.
i just think people have no morals, ethics, or standards on websites. They can't bother to ask the artist permission or look for the maker and ask before they think they can post it up everywhere. even with the best intentions, it's very rude and immature to repost without permission or at the very LEAST a source back to the original artist.
Its one reason we're hated on quite a bit.
It's people in general.
*THWAP*
I don't believe they will ever get a full handle on it with everything thats out there.
This is a good example of that, i for one am glad e621 is being given a second chance with a new admin.
