PLEASE DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVN'T READ THE BOOK, OR WISH TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF IT UNTIL YOU READ IT YOURSELF. IT YOU PROCEED FROM HERE AND THEN COMPLAIN TO ME ABOUT POSTING IT, THE FAULT IS ENTIRELY YOUR OWN.
WHILE I'M GIVING AWAY NO PLOT POINTS, I AM STATING MY, AND MY FIANCES PERSONAL REACTION TO THE BOOK.

I've read a little bit of it, and The Bun (
witchiebunny ) is reading through it completly at the moment, but apperantly -
the book sucks.
I've never been a fan of the Harry Potter series (JK's style isn't something that really appealed to me) but I've been around enough to know a mediocre book when I read one.
Naturally, my opinion doesn't carry very much weight in the grand scheme of things, and since I'm predisposed against Rowling to begin with, my opinion means even less.
Yet concidering this is the 'grand' finale of one of the most highly anticipated book series of all time, it feels like a failure.
The Bun is crushed. She has been a Potter fan for just shy of a decade and is hurt and angry that JK would end the series with a book like this.
The assorted plot points are, for the most part, irrelavent. It's how they are strung together, and the manner in which the du ex machina make their apperances (and the number of them) that do the damage.
I'm likely playing with fire by writiing this journal, but I hope that people understand that I'm not attacking those who like Harry Potter, or J.K. Rowling herself; and I'm being careful not to reveil plot points of any kind. I'm just giving my opinion of the book based upon my own experiance as a literate man and my own personal tastes and preferances.
JK is still a good writer, but this just feels like decided to usher the series out the door with a 'thanks' and a 'shoo' rather then a BANG and a WHIR.

I'm more of the opinion that you should try to enjoy it as much as possible. It's the culmination of a 7 book series, and there won't be any more! If you don't try to enjoy it now, you'll only be sabotaging your own happiness. Just try to ignore the bad bits until the book is over, you know? It won't make the book any /better/, but it's better than letting yourself get all negative. That part can come after you've finished :P
I personally haven't read it yet, and I look forward to, no matter how bad it is. I just want the story to be "over", you know?
And when the 6th book came out "Harry Potter and the half-blood prince" and I found out that this book is nothing more than a trailer for the final book, I stopped reading Harry Potter and lost the interest in the whole Harry Potter theme.
