Modern Pulp Fantasy Inspiration.

Something has come over me as of late. I was reading over ReDaDillo's Lenny Elfkhound book and some of that stuck with me for some odd reason. Now I find myself looking over my d20 Modern books for a few ideas of what to do and how to go with a storyline I came up with in my head. Some of the elements of Lenny will be repeated, the fact the main character is a globe trotter looking for adventure. Among other things, the idea is going to combine elements of the X-Files with "Reality TV" most notably show like "Ghost Hunter" and "UFO Hunter" as well as a lot of horror, sci-fi and modern fantasy. The producers of the show are out to prove that all this supernatural nonsense is total bunk and they send in the dog to various places to prove that there is a perfectly logical explanation for all of it, but the host is more like Fox Mulder in that he keeps an open mind and is of the opinion that not everything here is totally being hoaxed but some of it might be real. And in the scenarios he gets thrown into, a lot of what his producers want him to expose as total bunk is very very real.

Those reality shows are amazing. A bunch of guys go looking for a ghost, or review a UFO case, get scared, fumble around in the dark with instruments they have no idea how to use properly, then tell us to make up our own minds.

I'm hopefully going to start work on the first tale today. In this episode our hero ravels to Japan to visit Battleship Island and learn the truth behind certain stories about the place.

Well, the hero of these tales will be a little more competent than that. Imagine how those shows would play out if somebody like Fox Mulder from the X-Files in the private sector were on the team. The German Shepherd hero will be sort of like Mulder in that he believes in a lot of this stuff but still tries to keep an eye out for true hoaxing. So for the most part he has an open mind, but not so open that his brain falls out.
