My 3-month old laptop BSOD'd on me while I was surfing the web, and now it can't boot up right at all. I think something happened and it can't find the proper windows install...
In any case, do any of you out there no of a way I can get at the files on my harddrive, so I can save before I wipe the stupid thing? :(

Good luck.
When that fails I resort to removing the drive from the machine and using a IDE/SATA to USB adaptor.
Like this: http://www.amazon.com/USB-2-0-SATA-...../dp/B001OORN06
This allows you to power up the drive and mount it like an external harddrive/usb key.
The can be found in most computer stores for about $10-$15. Paying more then that doesn't win you anything.
There are ways of rebuilding it, but none of them are pretty, and I need to figure out how to get them to work off of a Ubuntu Live CD (USB Drive)
... I don't suppose you could tell me how to give a program I installed to Ubuntu (NTSF-Scrounger) full write permission so I can actually run it? The info window says I'm not the owner, so I can't change the permissions. Thus, whenever I try to open the program, Ubuntu tries to unzip it instead. :P

I was able to find a page that might be helpful thought: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind.....dows-computer/
And please, by all means.. if I can help, let me know. I'm not an expert, but I've had to tinker here and there so far.
