Ok, I know how I said I was going to post how to donate as well, but I decided not to. If you would like to donate a machine please talk to me on SL (Fox Irwin) and we'll set up a date, you will be paying for shipping btw. Just a heads up. So for now just how to host your own region.
How to host your own region:
Ok, here are some recommendations for those who are interested in hosting their own sims on the grid (please contact me on Second Life (Fox Irwin) If you wish to do this, you will be required to join the group so we can keep track of people.
Systems: (NOTE! These must be dedicated machines as ports must be open to the Internet, DO NOT USE A MACHINE YOU USE FOR YOURSELF! This must be a spare computer, for security reasons for yourself.
CPU: Any Intel or AMD based CPU, 1Ghz single core. (For every sim you want to host, we recommend 1 CPU or core per region. If you want 2 regions we recommend dual core, though you can host as many as you want on any number of cores, just be prepared for lags and slow downs)
RAM: 1GB per region (2GB should do 3 regions fine though)
LAN: 10/100 or faster (Wi-Fi NOT RECOMMENDED!)
Hard Disk Drive: 10GB or more (Opensim does not require a lot of hard drive space for hosting local regions, but we recommend 5GB per sim right now, you can alwasy back up and upgrade)
Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-24 kernel,(32bit recommended) Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, or 7, (32bit recommended), Mac OS X 10.4 or higher. We do recommend you use Ubuntu Linux as thats what we're familour with, but any flavor is fine, provided you can install OpenSim on it and Team Viewer
Software Required:
MySQL or SQLite
Mono 2.4 (or higher)
Open Simulator (version will be specified by us, we currently us 0.7.0)
Team Viewer (or any VNC compatible remote desktop viewer, this is for use to make small changes here and there so you don't have to change often, makes it simpler on you.)
Network Requirements
ISPs: Any Internet Service Provider that allows you to set up a server. Though you may set up one anyways, but we will not be held responsible if your service is terminated or charged extra for having a server. (no way around this, you must be allowed or you can have your Internet terminated.
ISP connection Speed: at least 1MB/sec down and 1MB up or faster is recommended. (depending on how many people are connected. If no one is one, no bandwidth is uses, but the more that are on your land, the more bandwidth is required.)
Internet Connection Type: High speed DSL, Cable, Fiber optic or a dedicated T1 line or faster. We do not recommend those who are using wireless broadband and we have had issues before with connectivity.
Router: Any router that features DMZ, Port Forwarding and loopback (required if you plan to use your own region) I recommend Linksys routers as they are reliable in my case.
LAN connection: Ethernet 10/100 or 10/100/1000 ethernet connection. We do not recommend wi-fi as we have had issues with connectivity.
Thats about all I can remember now, If i have any other info I'll let you know. Be sure to visit http://www.furworlds.com for info and some cool facts about it all and such.
