God, I'm old. I remember Columbine being on TV when I was a Junior in high school.

Make that Sophomore. XD

I was i College on 9/11/01 and still remember when they canceled all classes that day.

The days following that where I live, people where complaining that kids cartoons shouldn't haven been taken over by the two towers.

No really that's how stupid the TV stations where, show all the kids people dieing. FYI there was a channel that adults were watching, which had the morning news anyway. We had back then four TV channels and only two maybe three could have shown that.

Also take note that in Australia most kids don't know what the towers where, I sure didn't.

I was in my last year of high school

I was on my last year in the Marine Corps during 9/11. The base was rounding up people for security duty, handing them any weapon they had in the armory and live rounds, then issued the order "Shoot anyone who tries to come through the gates." yeah, bad times.

I stayed home from school that day because I had a doctor's appointment and when I woke up, that is what I saw on the TV, two towers that I had never seen before on fire. I was also ten years old at the time. It was on the TVs in the hospital too and at that point, I really wanted to watch something else because I was really too young to understand.

I volunteered at the Oklahoma City bombing... I was stationed at Tinker AFB and we were down there by the time they had finished setting up the cordon. They used us mostly as auxiliary police to keep things orderly. Basically guard duty on the perimeter cordon and at other areas like the church where the relatives went for official information. Some others did get to do a little search and rescue. Like the towers, there weren't many left...
