Is it a new submission, or did you re-upload over your existing work?

I reuploaded over the existing work. I wish FA had a feature like DeviantArt that puts an updated file into the watcher's "inbox".

Yeah... I still think FA doesn't really do story formats all that well. I'm considering crossposting one of my pieces on FF.net over here, but the format limitations just plain cause me to back out. :/

The VCL is worse, you can't even put a thumbnail up there.

I don't understand how on one hand they want to encourage people besides just graphic artists to get involved, but then don't give them beyond the most rudimentary tools to do so. Heck, at least people uploading audio files get an in-browser, in-line plugin.

Exactly. And, for those people who don't do any graphic art(like me; my art skills suck) it really isn't worth it. These sites really need to find a way to make their submission process much more accessible to writers. I'm not going to foul up my formatting by using plain text to get it on the site, and most people aren't going to take the time to actually download anything I write... then there is the problem of choosing a format that some people just don't have the capability to open. It's enough to make my head spin. Heh.

Why they don't allow embedding HTML while stripping off cross-linking tags and javascript (for security reasons) is beyond me. Basically HTML with little more than formatting allowed.

Neither do I. I know people who post their original stories on, say, FF.net in order to keep away the nightmare of publishing stories on here.

You do have a good workaround with using a PDF file, but I would greatly prefer to read entire stories on the site instead of having to either download one to my machine or having to open it in memory. :/

Two reasons I can do it: 1) My university gets us Adobe products for free and 2) barring that there's free PDF printers like CutePDF and cups-pdf and MS Office 2010 and OpenOffice.org both export to PDF.

Hmm... I may have to look into those. My college uses Office 2007 exclusively so I might be a little stuck; already migrated everything over from OpenOffice a year ago. But, I'll see what I can do; perhaps post something I've been screwing around with for the past few months.

Office 2007 Service Pack 2 has OASIS OpenDocument and PDF support as well. I think the lasted WordPerfect or two supports both, as well.
