A Templar Series Side Story
"I will no longer be used..."
The lights flickered down the clean hallway of the Sun Jin military research facility. Power to several blocks of the secure facility had been disrupted as several buildings seen outside the barred windows were on fire.
The wounded suspect of said damages limped down the hall with a hand on the wall. His blood dripped from under his highly advanced Gotenanks Armor leaving a faint trail of his past on the tile floor and soaking the black Liani Tech heavy cloth skirt fabric draping from the belt armor. His vision was blurry, he was dizzy, but he had his goals and his determination to survive fueled him. The doorway was close and his freedom not too far beyond that.
At the opposite end of the hallway the heavy mechanical lock system began to vibrate and unsecure itself sending sounds down the dry corridor. As the two halves opened three armed soldiers in loose tactical armor ran into the corridor and took firing positions with their rifles. Distance to their target only about twenty meters. Their feline fur stiffened under their armor as they aimed their guns. The squad commander in front of the other two crouched as he took aim wondering if to even try to communicate. He knew that he is supposed to try and bring the subject back alive due to his high military research importance but also knew that he wouldn't listen. He knew you can't stop somebody on this kind of warpath.
The limping muted-yellow furred creature pushed off the wall with his hand and walked to the center of the hall and stood still trying to catch his breath. Slowly he reached up and with his hands on the sides of his chest piece of the armor and flipped a few snaps open. One or two more and the front, back, shoulder plates, and the draping black protection cloth around it fell to the floor. With a burden of weight lifted he could now breathe easier and with the freedom of arm reach lifted his hand to the side of his head to clumsily wipe some of the sweat off his head, under the pair of horns running down from his forehead towards the front of his muzzle. His green and blue eyes gazed at the three soldiers before him in a daze and he could only think one thing, "I will survive... I will escape."
"Forza..." the lead soldier shook his head patiently yet firmly. "I don't want to shoot you."
"You won't shoot me," Forza muttered. "I'm your friend."
"Yeah, I'm your friend. That's why I won't let you out those doors."
Shaking his head, Forza chuckled a bit. "I've killed too many for too long. Behind me down that hallway there are bodies of others who called me their friend. They wouldn't let me pass. I've had enough."
"Then I suppose I have no other choice, my friend. I have my-"
Mid-sentence there was a clicking sound from the rear of his skirt armor and Forza reached back quickly grabbing onto to hilt of an energy blade that unfolded horizontally and locked into position. With one quick motion he grabbed the hilt and pulled it out of its container and threw his hand forward, underhandedly tossing it towards the trio. The orange glow from the blade flew across the room with a swift trail of light like a glow stick and came to rest just below the neck of the leader. A few shots were fired but by the time the two others took their eyes off their falling leader Forza had already slammed into the front of them both with a tremendous amount of force, plunging a sword into each of their chests, one in each hand.
While pulling his swords from the barely alive bodies he rose to his feet with new trail of blood running down his leg. He had been shot again. His moans of pain were matched by those still dying behind him as he continued to walk towards the now open door. He held the two swords by the hilt, backwards, and put the back of his hand against his throbbing forehead. Both swords were solid blade swords and were made of a type of metal and energy fusion that had been part of the research at this facility. One of them was a straight sword bladed on both sides with glyphic writing running down the center. The other was a longer curved katana-style blade.
As put his hand on the doorway to hold himself up he could hear a sound or riffling behind him and quickly turned to look over his shoulder. One of the guards he had stabbed, still alive, had rolled over onto his stomach to be able to watch Forza and had his hand to his headset. He was reporting his location, and his intent to leave.
This building was close to the perimeter of the facility and Forza knew everything that could get in his way was now on its way to create a barrier between him and his escape. He hadn't quite thought it all through. He was improvising. He had no for sure escape plan once he was away. He knew they could send specialized assault units such as himself, chase him with aircraft, land vehicles, or anything at their disposal. He didn't care. He knew he had to push as hard as he could for as long as he could and if he had to he'd kill anybody who stood in his way.
"I won't kill for you anymore." His thoughts were fixed on his escape and his resolve was unshaken through the dizziness and blood loss. He pushed the front door of the compound open and between him and the hundred meters to the enormous iron clad wall with his exit stood a whole platoon of soldiers that were getting in position to attack as they saw him emerge. It wasn't the whole base force but it was still a lot of weapons pointed at him. Riflemen, close quarters combat troops, and he could hear aircraft approaching behind the building from afar. He stood there for a moment looking at all of them and turned his swords around, holding them at combat ready, in the cold snowing night.
He knew he had dropped his chest armor earlier. With it was an important part of the projectile repulsory armor system that would slow down high speed projectiles before they hit him or would deflect them away all together. A barrier, a shield, and the most important part of the Gotanenks Armor research project. Without the chest and shoulder pieces the system would be highly ineffective. Instead he had his bare muted yellow fur with the bloodstained white colored chest fur.
He held his swords up at the ready and slowly continued forward haphazardly. As he continued toward the crowd the immediate soldiers in the way stepped aside but held their weapons fixed on him.
In the near distance, aside the group, a small troop transport came to a vertical landing with the rear cargo doors already open and facing the group. From it stepped down a handful of extra soldiers including one of the base lieutenants, a white and black furred feline woman in a military jumpsuit with her tail wrapped around her hips. The aircraft took off as the team exited and hovered over the crowd with spot lights aimed directly down at Forza. It was loud and created a lot of wind blowing his draping cloth armor around his legs and rustling his fur as well as blowing snow and slush about.
The female took up a high position where she could be seen and close enough to be heard over the sound. "Forza," she yelled. "Where are you going? There's no place to go."
He took a few fast breaths trying to not pass out. He could barely hear her as it was with him trying to put extra focus on what she was saying. Before he could answer a pair of soldiers with swords started to circle around him together and with a growl he turned to the side a bit and aimed a sword at them but turned his head to face the woman again. "I'm not your hostage! I've been your puppet for long enough. You've shown me that I have abilities that you want and I won't let you use me as a tool in your war!"
"We taught you to control those abilities. We've given you what you need to survive with those powers and the things we've learned from you will be used to save millions of lives. We need you to continue the research. You're too valuable for us to let you walk out that door."
With his continuous walking the whole time he had already emerged from the other side of the group and was now walking backwards towards the huge metal wall and the gate. The platoon followed him with a fair range between them not to antagonize him. He watched her jump down and hurry through the group to get in the lead and followed Forza. He continued until his back hit some yellow-painted railing between him and door controls. Without taking his eyes off her he slid around the railing and up one step to the platform. He did take his eyes off her for a second, only a quick second, to look at the well-known door controls and thumbed with them with his back to the panel trying to watch the others. Finally the correct button was hit and the wall rustled with activity. Loud horns continued to sound and yellow caution strobes began gleaming all about that section of the barrier. Slowly the thick metal gates labeled "SUN JIN R&D 10-003" in huge lettering opened and began to retract into the walls beside them. Forza stepped down from the platform and continued stumbling backwards unhindered. It became obvious to him that the guards were obviously ordered before he met them in the courtyard not to fire unless ordered.
He continued onto an extended bridge platform that spanned across a ravine separating the research and development labs from the rest of the base and the outer gate about a kilometer away. The narrow canyon was filled of sounds from the heavy flowing waterway at the bottom surrounded by thick pine trees going up the sides all the way to the top where they stood now. He slowed down... he was starting to succumb to the blood loss evident by the trail of blood leading from his feet far back to the base. He fell to a single knee and held his eyes closed tightly feeling himself get light headed.
"Forza..." she said. "This is your last chance. I don't want to lose you. You're dying..."
All he could do was slowly shake his head. "What are you going to do? Shoot me? What will that get you?"
"I won't have to shoot you. You'll die on your own at this rate. Blood loss... and where are you going to go? This whole continent is entering its winter season. There's no way off planet for you and I'm your only option."
He staggered back to his feet and shook his head. "I'm Amber Krowen. I'll survive this."
"I'll do whatever it takes..."
"Then I have to stop you, too." He slowly latched his swords onto his belt and stood tall for a moment taking a few deep breaths and with his eyes closed. Something started to happen... The snow falling to the ground around within about a meter of him slowly started steering away from a straight down path and bent towards him then landed near his feet instead. The air around him began to feel thicker and heavier.
"Don't make me have to kill you, Forza..." She shook her head.
A resonance sound started to fill the air.
After a moment of watching the lieutenant put her hand to her ear with a breath of sigh. "Take the shot." She lifted her eyes to watch him, the wind blowing her hair around.
From an elevated distance, the watch tower where the gate controls were, an electronic telescopic crosshair landed on Forza's head.
He opened his eyes to look at her as the concrete bridge under him began to buckle but it was too late. A single loud crash sound broke out from the watchtower and a fraction of a second later a bright flash of green light erupted around Forza's body as the Gotanenks Armor repulse shield was penetrated. Forza's body flipped backwards and landed several meters from where he stood a second prior. The sound could be heard traveling towards the horizon for several seconds
The lieutenant took a breath to recover as the effects of Forza's energy settled down and the atmosphere returned to normal. She began to walk towards the body to confirm what she had to have done. From where she was she could see plenty of blood around the body but his armor was in the way and his body was still too far away. He didn't appear to be breathing.
Then a new sound began to fill the area. The damaged concrete bridge began to crack and sounds of it doing so echoed through the canyon below. Large portions of the underside began to break away and the whole bridge began collapsing.
All she could do was quickly turn around and run off to safety where the other troops were. As she slowed down she looked over her shoulder and watched it crumble into the canyon below with the body on it. Dust and smoke was all that remained.
"No!" She shouted as she darted back to the ravine and looked over. There was little she could see though because of the tree cover and all the dust. The crashing noises from the bridge coming to rest below still echoed around them. She turned and started walking back towards the gate putting her hand to her ear, opening a communication. "Someone start a search and rescue team in the ravine. Sun Jin needs that body."
