Which Kart & Character are you using?

I figured it was impossible to avoid all the items thrown at my kart, so instead I decided to choose a heavier character/kart (Rosalina) and rely on the higher speed to get ahead. Mario Kart Wii is broken in terms of items, as the higher power ones are given out far too often.

Mario and the Blooper Kart or Rosalina and the Offroader kart.

Oh my god, my only tip is to keep trying. I screamed ALOT trying to get everything done in that game. The cpu's are so annoying and on a rubberband ai setting so you just cant get away.

One thing i did was hang back the first lap, get the blue shell then just out drive them and they couldnt get me. or just save a star for the final lap. Its so so so annoying Y^Y

May be your char and cart choice, each char does have there own stats, so its good to find the best cart to utilize with them. Another thing is to remember all the short cuts, makes it so easy against comps.

I always had luck with yoshi personally.

Pop a wheelie when someone uses a POW block. You'll spin and lose your item, but you won't lose any speed.

You can partially negate the effect of POW blocks by jumping right when they hit, you'll still lose your items but you won't spin out
Also it's possible to dodge blue shells. Difficult, but definitely possible. I think it requires a mushroom though, which you won't get if you're already in first

No tips but compassion. This game is fuckkin hard.

The way the game adjusts chances of getting items paced on place makes it totally unfun for me. If you're winning you never get the good items, so it's unfun, and if you're losing you get handed a second chance because the game takes pity on you, so it's not fun.

it might be because you are ahead most of the time the power ups aren't random the items you get depend on what place your in. try to stay a few places back till the last lap and then you'll get good power ups to keep you in 1st till the end, what i usually did was just try to not make any mistakes while in first place, cause in first place you get crappy power ups like like green shells and bananas what i do is hold the bananas or green shells behind me while i drive that way if anyone tries to shoot shells or anything else at you will be blocked with your shell or bananas

Couldn't stand the game after a while. Every new game in the series depends less on actual driving skill and more about hanging back with the nukes. Remember how rare it was to see a Lightning Bolt in the SNES Kart? Damn, there'd be entire playthroughs of that game without seeing one. Not mention items only appeared in like, one location, so you only got one a lap, not 4 or 5 EVERY lap. Ugh.

The game's unstrategy is that you have to stay away from first place as long as you can while holding onto one of those nukes.

I heard the new ones are more about luck then skill -.- kinda sad.

For POW Blocks, you need to shake your controller, still your items will be discarded as usual.
For Blue Shells, you need at least 1 Mushroom. When it ready to hit ya, USE IT !!


That's the basic tips to me.

Yeah I finally gave up on mario kart cause it's engineered for "worst to first" finishes where being first place gets you an ass kicking, honestly the biggest mistake they made was having you lose your items if you were hit, the old games let you keep your items even after being hit, this at least gave you a chance to defend your position from those coming from behind, also they really screwed up the blue turtle shell, I liked the N64 version that would follow the track on the ground hitting everyone and anyone unlucky enough to be in its path when it went by. If I could find joystick parts for my N64 controllers I'd still play the system, but until I can find new controllers and/or the specs for the old ones I'll just keep it in my drawer. (need the specs on the depth of the groove that the joystick pivot point has so I can fix them.)

I beat the 150 cc with Mario in the Blooper kart. The catch is, I had to master manual drifting to do it. Manual drifting is by far one of the easiest ways to get much needed boosts to stay ahead of computer opponents. If someone is shooting a normal or red shell at you when you are in first, and you have a banana, hold down on the control stick, but do not release. You will hold the banana (that's just about the only item you get when you are in first place) behind your cart and it has a chance of stopping the shell from hitting you. Like said about the POW, jump just when it is about to hit and it won't get you. Blue shells... you're boned. Just use the blooper's high acceleration after you are stopped and do drifting to boost ahead. Finally, learn the course's short cuts. Several of the courses have shortcuts. Some that can only be effectively exploited if you have a mushroom, but they are there, and if you learn them, you can shave valuable seconds off when you have fallen behind. Wait til you try the mirror cup.

Dont try f zero GX that was made evn worse as you boost to all hell and jstu at the finish line soem car behidn you jstu zips by with unreal speed.

but yeha making game hard by making it midway hard is jstu cheap and lazy programing, yes even nintendo is to blame for this.
