I can't stop playing it online. It's addicting. o.o
And it's weird because I'm not usually into video games.. especially first person shooters. I haven't liked Halo since the first one came out.

FA+

Part of me is glad Reach came out though, because most of the bunny-hopping, glitch-abusing Halo-tards abandoned ship on Modern Warfare 2 when it came out. So now you don't see a bunch of idiots running around in MW2 with their Marathon+Lightweight+Commando+Tactical Knife scrub setups. =P
Anyway, IMHO halo is funnier, better, etc., but CoD multi-player is more addictive.
And yes, I've always hated Halo's MP mechanics. Characters who practically float for infinite every time they jump are ridiculous, and it's even worse when you have to use a full clip of ammo with most weapons (sometimes more) just to make someone's shield drop, THEN use more ammo to finish them off. That kind of surrealism doesn't appeal to me at all, and it caters to the annoying "LOL U got pwned!!!1one" juvenile twats who make up 90% of its gaming community. >_>
And I hate to burst YOUR bubble, but Halo in essence really hasn't done CRAP for the gaming industry, short of giving LAN-parties a brief burst in popularity when the original game came out. Name one feature it has that hasn't already been done before or done BETTER in at least one other shooter. Go on, try it. Dual-wielding? Done before. Personal shields? Done before. AI allies? Check. I could go on and on.
Anyhow, Halo isn't a "horrible" series, but it's not even remotely deserving of all the mindless hype and praise it gets.
The matchmaking and ranking system is horrible (Oh hay I can win 30 matches in a row and never go up a rank, then lose a single match and DROP a rank. Isn't this awesome?!). The community is full of wannabe MLG, dashboarding fucktards who think the only thing that matters is their K/D. Yadda, yadda, yadda. I digress. I TRIED to like the series, believe me, I did. But in the end, it's just an average shooter with a bunch of "shinies" to keep the simpleminded appeased.
Halo also brought to the FPS group a few marked improvements which include the lack of Pocket of Holding bodysuits and the tactical use of vehicles. By pocket of holding, I mean ala Goldeneye 007 where you can carry all of your weapons at once. The fact that Halo makes you carry only two (Or three with dual wield) weapons at a time is a marked step towards the realism that most shooters before then lacked, (and which Zelda titles haven't found yet xD)
I'm not saying it's the greatest game ever invented and that CoD and MW suck hard. But as a shooter, Halo speaks to me because... well... I don't like shooters. The vehicle system is very natural to the overall control methods, and the teamwork involved in operating some of them effectively is something a lot of so-called regular shooters lack; that being teamwork. Sure, you might be working for the same goal, but with the shields and such (and knowing your weapons) two people can be an immense threat compared to one on one. Sometimes you HAVE to work together to accomplish team-based victories.
Moreover, Halo's community is not 90% Juvenile twats. That's EVERY video game community. It's because video games are made for kids for the most part. So don't even go there.
The background story is also an interesting one, both combined from others, and set apart on it's own. Sure there are parallels to Alien, and Ringworld, and probably star Trek, but Bungie knows how to make a game, and they know that a large part is getting people immersed in the overarching story.
It's not as cut and dry as you make it seem.
But now I wanna play just to play it.lol
