Star Trek: The Motion Picture
They said it couldn't be done.
And there are in fact six motion pictures made for the original series (they're very dark and gritty), one for the original and Next Generation (called Generations), one for just Next Generation (deals with the Borg and is also very dark and gritty--possibly almost as gritty as the old ones), and the new one (while indeed extremely dark, I wouldn't really call it gritty by any means).
Tonight I'm watching Generations, bringing my list of old Star Trek movies to watch (in sequential order) to a close. They are very good. I like VGER's "Kirk Unit" reference and Spock's "My shoes?" line. As well as Pablo Chekov's clueless "I'm through? May I go now?" when being threatened.
