NAME THAT PIT BULL RESCUE! ...Help please. >_>
15 years ago
Sorry, this is kind of a random post, but I need help.
So I’m starting a very small pit bull/“bully breed” rescue, and it needs a name before I can submit my licensing/certification application. Aaaaand all the good ones have been taken.
SO I NEED THE HELP OF ALL Y’ALL BRILLIANT FURRIES. Please give me some suggestions for names! It can be aretarded clever little anagram type deal (like PAWS—Pits Are Worth Saving), something fancy (like Broken Hearts, Mended Souls or Project Precious Paws), or something basic (Central Missouri Pit Bull Rescue).
THE BACKGROUND STORY:
As some of you know, I’m an intake manager at the Central Missouri Humane Society. We have a policy of euthanizing pit bulls, pit mixes, and any “bully breed” dog (such as cane corsos, dogo argentinos, etc). This rescue will be very small and operate out of foster homes, and will only take bully breed dogs that come into the shelter that are highly adoptable and need no rehabilitation or socialization prior to adoption.
So basically, this rescue will be the only chance for these dogs—their only other option is euthanasia. We’ve been toying around with names like “nick of time” or “last chance,” but all the ones we come up with are already taken or are totally depressing. >__>
THANK YOUUUUU. :D
EDIT
I've received a LOT of helpful suggestions, but if anyone can come up with more I'd really love to hear them! The rescue'spathetically tiny board of directors is going to vote on a name on Saturday, so I still have time to collect some more ideas.
I really appreciate the help, guys. I suck at this stuff. <3

FA+

Because it's always such a brief, shooting glimpse into true love that people don't show very often. And not only that, but to be taken in by your rescue is like having a wish granted. Like on a shooting star, or a coin into a well <3
I wish you the best!!
"Pit Bulls cry too"?
"Fighters for life"?
"Fill the Pit in your heart"? (<- wat)
"Pawshake rescue"
..I dunno I could keep going if you want xD
The Pitbull Redemption Project
The Pits of the Round Table
iPitbull
...I'm lame, I know.
FurPits
Pit Affinity
*goes to think of more cheesy phrases to geek herself out with*
Thanks for the suggestions!
(Our original thought was "Nick of Time", but this is apparently already the name of a national rescue organization...boooo. So I like that this is somewhat in that sort of vein.)
"Pawz for Cause"
"Second Chances"
Bullies 4 Luv
Hearts & Pawz
Fur the Luv
Thanks for the suggestion!
You've probably already thought of this; just sayin'. Good on you for at least trying. I couldn't work at a place that euthanizes based on breed alone. Pits are awesome.
annoying and incessant naggingrepeated formal appeals) refuse to budge, primarily for liability reasons. And it is a pain. It's hard enough euthanizing critters when there's actually a legitimate reason; when it's for breed alone, it just pisses me off.
"So why can't we adopt out bully breeds again?"
"FOR THE CHILDREN, YOU SILLY GIRL! FOR THE CHILDREN!"
Fuckers.
I totally don't dislike the board of directors at my shelter. Nope. Not meeeeee.
Lazy fucking rich assholes who don't give a damn about the animals need to get off their asses and amend some freaking rules raaaarrrrgh. My own personal favorite is still Decolor's suggestion, Seconds Count -- that just smacks of logo-friendly, is catchy enough that it will spread fast too.
First thing I'd suggest(other then dot EVERY I and cross EVERY t on that 501c3 app -- it's almost as hard as the first year, trust me!!) is to network heavily; get onto groups like BadRap.org's group listings/mailing lists and such.
And I definitely plan on latching onto the underbellies of all the significant national pit rescues that I possibly can. We're getting a lot of local support already, especially from the mother shelter (since none of the employees like the no-pit policy), and are already working with quite a few local generic rescues with our fundraising efforts--since almost all of the rescues in our area come to us for their animals, I'm already on friendly standing with most of the people who run them. xD
As soon as we're licensed and good to go I'll probably be posting journals with a link to our website. :3
My dillemma: No job (no donations possible...as much as I'd love to), living in an apartment (have to talk to the landlord about a temp home)...though I can do some basic HTML, and I can post craigslist ads...along with some photo editing, and a few other things.
Shoot me with a note if you want more info.
Er, maybe not "puppies" but I kind of like the idea of a "Pit-iful" somethingsomething.
And it's never too late! I want lots of ideas so I can compile a list of the ones I like for the board to vote on, so I'll probably keep collecting suggestions for the next day or so from various places.
Interesting fact: More children are killed each year by Toy/Vanity breed dogs than by Bully breed dogs. Same for Injuries It is, depending on which company gathers the data statistic spread, Retriever/Toy/Vanity breeds cause more injuries than Bully breeds ... per year ... of all time ... ever.
And it's absolutely true! I (obviously) work with fractious dogs on a daily basis, and I have been bit literally dozens of times, and I have never been bit by a pit/bully breed or a mix thereof. Poms and min pins have been the worst for me. XD Evil little fuckers.
Useless fact: It is illegal to own and/or import an American pitbull dog in the UK.
My mom always says "There is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners". Wrot Weilers (hell knows if I spelt that right) and Dobermans are considered viscious aswell, yet I have never ever met a viscious one. Another pointless fact: It is illegal to doct the tail on any breed of dog now, unless it is for medical reasons. (In the UK)
A friend of mine owned an American Bulldog (We think) he was huge and very strong.
I wish my friend never had to get rid of him, but he got with my half sis who has a 3 year old daughter, and such a boisterous dog was not good to have around a small child.
Great Danes, now they are big. We had one once (we as in my family) I never took him for walks, he took me. lol
If you want any help with anything or names of bully rescues in my area let me know! We have a large amount of very friendly people across the country that do great work.

"Seconds Count" has my vote
I'm done babbling now :-D
However, pawshake rescue might be better suited if you've any intention of growing this project to possibly include other, less "dangerous" breeds (which would totally rock if they're at risk too).

I like Seconds Count as well.
