What makes a game good

Gameplay. I've noticed a few people I know put down games because of "lack of story". Who cares about a story, the story just gives you the point of the game, what's going on and what you must do, you get plenty of story in cutscenes and dialogue and then you can get straight into the gameplay. Story doesn't make the game good, here's a perfect example:
How many of you have heard of the game Prototype? If you haven't played it then look up the story, it is just a crappy "genetic experiments go wrong and the military go to clean up the mess." But that's not why people buy this game, they buy it for it's epic gameplay, you can run up walls, pick up cars and throw them at helicopters, absorb the memories of certain people. Doesn't that make a game fun? If you want a good story, pick up a book or a movie, not a game.
I seriously hate games that have too much emphasis on the storyline, more specifically Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, there's too much dialogue and waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much cutscene and for me that drowns out the excitement in the game. And to really piss me off with games like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts is the crappy gameplay, you just run around, get attacked, wait your turn and level up, they put too much into the combat system and that makes it unnecessarily complex and frustrating. Most RPGs have a lot of story but sometimes it isn't bad, like Dragon Age, my only complaint about Dragon Age is there's a lot of dialogue and it's really long. The RPGs I like have enough story to keep you interested and most of the time, it's a really good story, more specifically Diablo 2 and Hellgate: London.
On a side note: I've played Final Fantasy VII, the one people say is the best, that was the game that made me hate Final Fantasy, you literally play for 5 minutes and then have to sit through half an hour of cutscene and shitty story. The combat system was even worse, the turn based combat makes the game lethargic and boring and to top it off they randomise attacks so you can't beat your enemy with a good strategy.
I think I would like Final Fantasy if they didn't put too much story in the game, that being said I like the Final Fantasy movies, but the games are just a waste of time, the games feel more like the movies rather than a game.
So there you go, games are not made for story, they're made to be played and you can't play a game without decent gameplay. If the story sucks but the gameplay is fun then it's a good game, if both story and gameplay are good then it's possibly one of the best games you'll play, depending if you like that sort of game.
