I can't say it means anything deep or personal to me (Except perhaps as a ticket to an exclusive club). :)

Why I chose a marten? I can't really place a clawed finger on that. Just suddenly became very interested in them, read up about them and even rp'd as one or two in some MUCKs a few years before I found the fandom. Perhaps I have an affinity to them, but I find that is too strong a word for me. I am not a therian.
Also it is something a little different from the usual vulpine/lupine crowd.

It's the Dark eyes. There's so much depth in them. Always hard to know what lies beyond dark eyes. It's always mysterious and fascinating. They are always watching.. and plotting....

Martens seem quite charismatic, with a dignified sense to them. Elegant, poised, refined, sleek and mysterious.

Oh yes, eyes as dark as night...

It means ruling the world one day!

When I decided that my old fursona no longer fit, I remembered that as a kid I occasionally imagined myself as a ferrety weaselly thing. Marten just started to feel right after a few Wikipedia sessions. I like that they're quiet and reserved, but also bright and curious and even sometimes playful. It's a combination of traits that are me and traits that I just plain like.

The marten is the foxiest-looking mustelid. So beautiful, so handsome ... and yet so devious-looking with those impish ears, beady black eyes and sharp, pointy muzzle. It is admittedly a stereotype that they make great dashing villains. They have few natural enemies apart from Man (and by "enemies," I mean creatures that are capable of killing them, not the weaker prey animals that fear and hate them so).

Could a marten be portrayed as noble and virtuous? Of course! But we probably won't see it happen very often. It's so uncommon that we see martens at all in any form of mass media; seeing one in a cartoon or discovering a marten character in a story book is a rare delight -- even if it does end up playing the usual "villainous" role.

I agree with this marten. He is both a gentleman and a schooner.

Choosing my fursona was a long, thoughtful process. There is a whole list of reasons it's a good fit for me.

*Don't know marteny personality much (though I did see them occasionally while growing up) But I have had pet ferrets and I know that mustelid personality is a good match for me.

*Martens live almost exclusively in coastal temperate rainforest climates, exactly where I grew up and fill at home at.

*I've always loved jumping, climbing, getting into places I shouldn't, so a feisty tree dwelling creature was almost mandatory.

*Martens solitary nature is also a good match for me, though that keeps conflicting with my human needs for gregariousness.
