Because Nickelodeon and Disney Channel started doing them back in the late 80s and early 90s.

They've been sucking for a while. Adventure Time is a good show, but I feel it's the only show worth watching other than stuff on Adult Swim these days.

I miss the days of good shows like Dexter's Lab, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Sheep in the Big City, and Swat Kats. At least they show Swat Kats on Boomerang... but that's not on basic cable so I rarely have a chance to watch it.

I agree. I think Adventure Time is my favorite toon in a long, long time. The duo of Jake and Finn are just so fun.
