An Expensive Experiment [Iron Artist COmmissions Open]
I'll be Self-Publishing The River.
It's such a strange book (artistic, even) that there's not really any OTHER way that I could do it.
Lulu doesn't have the shape of book that I want (despite the fact that they say they do) so this is no longer an option.. which is a shame because it would have been the cheapest route.
I've looked into other options and.. they suck. my second favorite, Blurb, is EXPENSIVE AS HELL for the options I wanted- and not customizable enough to be worth it.
So.. I've sent off some quote/product example requests to a few printers that (gasp) outsource to china. I'm looking into getting 50-100 or so copies made (at first) and will order more if I see there being any reason to.
In addition, I am quite dead-set on giving it an ISBN number. it's important to me that it's registered as an ACTUAL book and not just printed for sale at, say, conventions.
now, because it'd going to be actually published, that means that I have to start an actual business....
This is good news for DWP, since I've been meaning to do this for awhile anyway, and this is the kick in the rear that I've been needing to do it.
projected costs for just the business and publishing (I have not gotten a response from any printers yet)
run at just below 700$ at this time.
projected advertising (I -really- want to push this as many places as possible) is, so far, 740$. this covers Deviantart, facebook, FA, Sofurry, and Rabbit Valley.
now it'd be quite a bit smaller except that, as a business, I don't qualify for the cheap advertising on DA. it'd be about 300$ less if that were the case-
but I am quite convinced that it's worth it. I can always opt for a smaller number of clicks, but I'd rather make these numbers based on the largest reasonable numbers and downsize if i need to.
I'm also looking into advertising on various places that use Project Wonderful.. Jack and Hanna is Not a boys Name are first choices.
(Suggestions for places to ad are more than welcome)
ANyway... so I'll be needing at LEAST $2000 to get this thing going... probably a few grande more than that. (I'm still doing research and trying to get more figures)
SO.
this said. . . Iron Artist Commissions are still only five bucks.
