Just something that crossed my mind recently..

Thanks to someone. You know who you are.
The concept has also come to light thanks to the release of HTTYD and the circulation of Toothcup (Toothless/Hiccup) material.
If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm talking about animal/feral/furry couplings with humans.
From what I've seen, many people seem quite divided about it, especially with dragons. This might stem off the fact that some dragon-characters have some level of dislike towards humans due to uh.. beliefs.. or something.. but there is something I find particularly charming about a larger, gentle, sweet dragon willing to build a bond with a human (or similarly fragile-in-comparison character).
It doesn't have to be just sex I'm talking about either. It's just touching to see two worlds meet.. which is why I think HTTYD was so lovable. It brings to light the concept that even opposing sides of warring factions will have some level of similarity between them.
What do you think about dragon/human couples portrayed in art/story? Yay or nay? A reason why would certainly be interesting to hear as well.

Hurr hurr hurr... You said meat... ;3
But yeah, I've no problem with it. I'm not into the porn of it or anything (surprisingly :V), but I think it can be quite touching to see a couple where one is quite obviously the more physically imposing, and where there's a gulf between the two that's spanned by a common belief, interest, etc.
I couldn't rightly say, though I could waffle on for pages on what my opinion is. But I'm not going to, of course. :x
lol sorry for the lack of any intellectual contribution on my part, but I do encourage human dragon relations. There's definitely not enough of that around.
For me, its hard to explain but something about the whole "huge beast actually being intelligent and not beastly at all" schtick tugs at my strings. A creature of immense size and power taking a human under its wing (dur) and showing them respect and perhaps even love (no, not sex. Well not always.)
I'm reading Temeraire right now and it gets the bond across really quite well.
But the fact that some people hate that....mainly D-kin folks who dislike that..... seriously...somethings wrong with them.... cause they obviously don't see the point of things and are so disillusioned to what they think they are, it ruins it....
I think that a non-sexual bond between any pairing of furry/dragon/feral/human is sweet and wonderful! As you said, there's something special about opposing sides coming together.
A powerful friendship shouldn't need any physical contact, aside possibly the occasional friendly lick/squeeze/hug. Hence Dragonheart was so good. The relation between the dragon and the knight was based upon an initial misunderstanding, and followed on with respect and a mutual understanding.
I just cannot imagine any such story that would still work properly with the involvement of sex. Just my two cents here.
Consider this: Sex requires a huge amount of trust - especially if there is a mixture of a large, powerful creature, and a smaller, fragile one. The human is practically going out on a limb and risking injury or death if things should go wrong because he/she is left prone and unarmed. To trust someone you'd need to respect them, understand them, and conclude their intentions are good.
You could look at porn and say it's just raw emotion and lust, and you'd probably be right 95% of the time for images on this site, but it's your choice to look at all sex in this manner. There are other ways to see it.
You seem to have a very intelligent, well thought-out view upon the subject though, which is quite nice to see. It's hard to find on the internet, or in the furry community these days... or any days.
Of course, pornography isn't a bad thing at all, I just cannot mix it properly with a well-driven story. To me, the perfect movie would be where the two 'worlds' meet, mix, and work out beautifully.
I loved the companionship between them. The friendship that they find and create, the closeness they get. And, from Hiccups point of view, its a freakin dragon! I mean, geeze, who wouldnt want a large dragon like that to be their best friend?!
That doesnt answer your question though. Personally the human/other relationships can get wierd. But its no different than other couples. Sometimes you just dont like seeing two people together, like when one of them is a prick and controls the other. Thats never nice to see. HTTYD just did the whole thing perfectly. They become friends, non-sexually, very close, and happy with each other. Not resenting anything, it seems. I would enjoy any kind of coupling between any species if its done like that.
Then again, I sometimes wonder about Toothless. Hiccup permanently scarred and disabled him. Took the freedom away from him. I think I would resent it quite a bit if someone blasted my leg off, then gave me a prosthetic that only they can control...
And I've been shocked by the _lack_ of Toothless porn since that movie has been released. I mean... much more obscure characters get rule 34'd like crazy. But for some reason, no Toothless?
I thought I'd see a ton of porn of Toothless and Hiccup when I watched the movie in the theater. I was thinking... yeah... that's gonna be awesome. And then I've been so disappointed!
But it looks like it's finally starting to come. :)
Get on your game, furry fandom!
He's done quite a few of Toothless.
I can think of multiple reasons why people feel overly protective of toothless, however.. and why there is a fair divide between those who do not want porn of them and those who do.
I've seen people express that Toothless "is too cute" to be defiled by pornography. Personally I feel this reasoning to be BS, because that didn't stop anyone from drawing Guilmon in smutty material.
My own conclusion? People see Toothless as a dog or cat, and the relationship between Hiccup and Toothless is like one they would have with their pet. Ignoring the people here who have such interactions with their pets, I think that most people subconsciously (or consciously) think that it is a corruption of that innocent, loving bond.
And of course then there are the people who feel that since Toothless is a dragon, he shouldn't be corrupted because dragons are bigger/better than humans blahblah etc.
And many of these characters also can't speak either. And many of them are even more 'baby seal cute' than Toothless.
I'm just not seeing anything that differentiates Toothless such that he should be singled out for 'Porn not OK!' status.
It also doesn't seem like it would be about Toothless being a dragon because some of this attitude seems to come from even dragon artists who normally draw lots of porn of dragons.
So what gives?
The only thing I can really think of is that the presentation of Toothless is so powerful in the movie. But to me, that just makes him even hotter. Indeed, I find it very easy to imagine him getting down and dirty _while staying within his proper established character_. Something you can't even say for the Digimon and Pokemon stuff.

Though in all seriousness it would be fairly nice to see more often. I don't even mean anything specifically, but I can't help but think of macro pictures of depictions of dragons being completely and utterly malevolent in every which way and just destroying everything across their path. Why not, I dunno, protect everything instead.

In it, to begin with it's the dragon who is the frail and weak one. Truly great animation too.
dont listen to me in crazy
And just like you, I see the relation between a dragon a human like 2 big opposed beings. The big and almost immortal mythical creature on one side, and the other side, the small and weak creature with only this pink squishy hide as protection. As a pooltoy creature made of thin plastic material and filled only with air who loves dragons, I have no trouble understanding this point of view. ^'===='^
I have posted a story with that theme, however...

Also, upon searching for Toochcup (which is an awesome phrase), I must say I am even more intrigued.
Mainly due to the fact that the movie has a good point that falling back on "tradition" isn't always the best way to go.
The common stereotype is that western style dragons are evil and humans must kill them to save the people/prove their "manliness".
I have nothing against dragons and humans being close like that. I guess that's always kinda been an underlying wish is that there'd be more friendship with things such as dragons and not so much.. "I killed one! I'm badass now!"
Not only that but the idea of opposite worlds coming together is an interesting thought.
Theyre not a favourite for sure but I do love it when the pair do meet and the worlds do collide. Their meeting and the subsequent befriending and trials are always fantastic to watch
There are more old stories about people and dragons in myths than anything. People have always had some level of fascination with dragons. It's interesting when you bring it up in this community though because it seems that some people impose their personal stigmas on dragons due to a bad experience with a dragon character somewhere down the road.
In HTTYD it was presented in a tasteful way with that little dab of Pixar’s disgustingly cute style that helped more people be drawn in. I think that if dragons where portrayed less often as monsters and beasts, but in this manner people would indentify much more easily.
If this statement seems outlandish try imagining it read by Draco, voiced Sean Connery. That seems to help.
There was one time we swam and played for a couple of hours and it was time to wrap things up for the day. He would swim away from me and place himself between the stage and me to prevent me from getting out. I played with him for a bit longer. He did the same thing when I tried to get out. Again, I swam with him for a bit longer and once again tried to get out of the pool. This time he did not swim between me and the pool. He swam right up to me, he pressed himself right against me, his chest against mine. He took his pectoral fins and put then right up into my armpits. He then gently clamped his fins against either side of my chest and litterally grabed me and carried me away to the center of the pool.
I was astonished be this and contiuned for stay with him for another half hour. He swam right up to me again, belly to belly. He grabbed me by my armpits once again. I followed his lead and I wraped my arms around him. I could feet the warmth of his body, I could feel his heart beating in his chest. I gave him a hug and I saw him close his eyes. The two of us, hugging each other. Then, we simply sank to the bottom of the pool hugging each other. NO.. there was nothing sexual about this at all. no sign from him of anything like this at all. It was quite an encounter that I will remember for the rest of my life.
He was eventually transferred to another aquarium and then, I left for a different dolphin facility. After a few years I was able to go to the aquarium were he was and took a few pics of him for memories sake. I learned a few months after that that he had died from eating leaves from ornimental plants that grew around the park. That plant as it turns out had poisionous leaves. 3 other Dolphins also died because of that. He will always remain in my mind as a Dolphin that developed much, much more that just a "trained animal" relationship with me.
So, when I hear about stories that have Humans and "non Humans" develop a real relationship with one another, I have first hand experience that it does happen and it is truely something wonderful. }:=)
You are most welcome. I have always felt more comfortable around animals than I do with people. I am one of those Therians and that is also perhaps why I am also a part fo the furry community, because so many other feel the same. The look up to them, respect them and yes, try to emmulate those charateristics that make them special.
Fly well! }:=)
Thank you for those kind words. Yes, encounters and relationships like what I discribe are part of the wonders that does make up this world. So many other close themselves off, isolate themselves. All we have to do is open up a little, in mind and in spirit and try to see what we are actually looking at. To remove this attitude of Human superiority over the other creatures of this world. It can happen and it is my heartfelt wish for you that someday you find, discover and feel this bond we can have with other creaturs that are not Human.
Fly well! }:=)
But yes it is an interesting and oddly polarizing issue. It's like 95% of people fall into the "Fuck that's hot" or "As long as there's no sex" categories, with almost nobody saying "I wouldn't mind it, but it's not any more or less hot." Odd, no?
But at the same time, it doesn't always apply since I find the concepts in games like Mass Effect interesting (Hate how you have to be female to get in with Garrus :/)
As for the HTTYD concept, well I find it cute with Toothless and Hiccup and the fact that it shows a way in which humans don't have to be stereotypical enemies with Dragons. Though you'll never see me looking for TxH artwork anytime soon.
On a separate note, I agree with Onyx about the iffiness of how HTTYD dealt with Toothless and Hiccup's relationship - it still doesn't seem right to me that Toothless just accepted him, almost as if he didn't realize Hiccup was the one who crippled him. But hey, the movie was cute, and I did like Hiccup's losing his leg at the end - not because I want him hurt, but more because it was a nice parallel.
Loving dragons is a way to give my life the dream side it misses,
being a human character is like to give reality to my dream.
I'm glad you feel this way about who I am. ^^ *Hugs you tight.*
It's all about the King of an Island of dragons and a human woman falling in love and changing the world.
