When the people you're writing about live in your head, sometimes they end up taking over, and turning the story in a direction you hadn't really meant it to go. Not always a bad thing, but often a bit surprising.
Also Darkangel really is kind of a freak. Though I mean that in a good way. Nothing wrong with being freaky, it beats being conformist by a long shot. :D

I find my NaNo characters do that a lot, they're all "screw that, I'm gonna do THIS instead!!"
