An enticing and voluptuous tail can be appealing to most, particularly in fox and such furs =3 It's not really surprising to me that some voiced their opinion over a missing tail, but its all in the artists perspective on the work ^.^ However it works best for you.

You'd be surprised what people find important. To people, the most important physical aspect is the face. At least psychologically speaking. in a study among war veterans, it was observed that the emotional trauma often was a mirror of the damage their face had sustained.

To this end, you could say that a tail is a core part of a fox's identity. You take their tail away and you take away part of their sooooooul!! But I digress. You can't please everyone all of the time. And if you wanna draw something you know people won't like, you can't please anyone but yourself. That's the price for drawing for yourself.
