So...anyone know how to use excel?

I has a week to finish putting stuff in a spreadsheet for an assignment, specifically I need to get solver to work and get another sheet finished. For the second sheet, I have a list of suburbs and postcodes. I need excel formulas for how to gather the suburbs and postcodes together and give me a number for how many times each combination occurs.
I'm not asking anyone to do it for me, granted if you really love using excel and such then I'll gladly give you the file, but the main thing I need is assistance with especially the second thing
I know this probably is not the -best- place to ask about this but hey, a lot of us here are nerds so surely someone knows more about it than me XD

I'll try to explain what I mean, although it's way easier if I show someone X3
I'm going to assume you've got the suburb and postcode in the same cell. Compile the list of unique suburb+postcode then next to each type (without quotes) '=COUNTIF([Entire column of suburbs/postcodes to count],[suburb+postcode you want to count]' (e.g. =COUNTIF(C:C,A2) )
Or alternatively, you could type that formula next to each one in the list you want to count, copy and paste the counts as values only (under Edit->Paste Special) and then manually delete the duplicate entries on the list
Now, if you if the suburbs and postcodes are in separate cells, then next to each combination type in the formula (without quotes) '=[SUBURB_CELL]&" "&[POSTCODE_CELL]' (e.g. '=A1&" "&A2'). Select this new list, copy it and paste it as values only. Get the list of combinations of these and just repeat the other steps above.
Hope that's not too confusing X3
thanks XD
