It has its pros and cons. Was hoping to at least see it pass for the sake of revenue and or future knowledge. Another time I suppose.

I also see both pros and cons, but I wouldn't be as willing to take a chance with that. I'd say if it were to be attempted again, something would have to change in the federal government's controlled substances act first.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you think any effect there would be?

It would definitely generate revenue for the state, but the state has had a bad history of spending more immediately after getting said revenue. Also, dealers from other states would be able to come across to California, acquire a legal amount, then smuggle it back to their home state and distribute it illegally. Finally, it will be easier for underage users to acquire marijuana, just like they can sometimes acquire alcohol illegally, whether it be by using a fake ID or by having someone who is of the proper age to get it for them. Those kids are also more likely to go out and do something stupid after getting high off that stuff.

On the pro side, maybe the state will learn to spend more wisely and the state would have actually gotten a decent revenue boost. It would also be easier for those with a legitimate medicinal reason to get it. There would also (hopefully) be fewer drug-related offenses, and state prisons would have a smaller prison population as a result.

The reason I lean to the cons is because I have a close relative who kicked a 20 year long addiction to crack just 6 years ago, and it started by trying pot. I don't want to see more stories like that popping up left and right in California.
