Instant computer death
My hard drive died tonight. Just out of the blue. I've only had that computer since August, so it was still under warrant. I spent an hour and 40 minutes on the phone with HP's lovely representatives in India. They're sending me a box so I can send the laptop to them. They're charging me 50 dollars to backup all my files, minus programs. I'll have it back in about two weeks, it sounds like.
In the meantime, I'm back on my little netbook to get my internet fix. The battery seems to have died while I wasn't using it, so it's not nearly as portable as it used to be. And it can't really run any of my steam games. Oh well.

Unfortunately the new lithium ion batteries tend not to last as long as other types, though they're lighter. I understand they keep best at 40% charge in a refrigerator (use a bag to keep condensation out) or other cold place. Of course, that only works if you're not using them.
